GASK II.
Artyčok TV uvádí GASK I. & II.
Současnou situaci v GASKu svým způsobem předznamenala již téměř zapomenutá epizoda z roku 2009, kdy nově zvolený hejtman David Rath bez udání důvodu odvolal ředitele významné krajské instituce do té doby sídlící v Praze.
- After somehow unusual selection procedure,00:00:01.464
- 00:00:01.464
- Jana Šorfová became a new director of Gallery of the Central Bohemian Region00:00:05.049
- 00:00:05.049
- in the beginning of 2011. Shortly after her appointment,00:00:09.450
- 00:00:09.450
- media started to be doubtful about the authenticity of her project00:00:16.534
- 00:00:16.534
- and the information in her CV. Artalk information web site played00:00:20.796
- 00:00:20.796
- an important role in it. They published Jana Šorfová's project00:00:27.626
- 00:00:27.626
- for the first time. When we received the project00:00:33.116
- 00:00:33.116
- of Jana Šorfová -Jan Skřivánek, Art+Antiques editor-in-chief:00:00:37.593
- 00:00:37.593
- we put it on the website without comment. It was towards the end of the week00:00:42.206
- 00:00:42.206
- and during the weekend it occurred to one of our readers00:00:47.867
- 00:00:47.867
- that the phrases used were so general00:00:52.860
- 00:00:52.860
- that they had to be copied from a management textbook.00:00:55.144
- 00:00:55.144
- It stated, for example, how it is important to develop business culture,00:00:59.364
- 00:00:59.364
- business identity. She didn't bother to change the vocabulary so it fit more00:01:05.049
- 00:01:05.049
- the public gallery context. It was about companies and business00:01:11.141
- 00:01:11.141
- which is quite strange to use in relation to public gallery.00:01:17.648
- 00:01:17.648
- When she started to look for the management textbook00:01:22.080
- 00:01:22.080
- as the expected source of the text, she typed one such phrase into Google00:01:26.987
- 00:01:26.987
- and that's how she came across the project of Monika Burian00:01:34.081
- 00:01:34.081
- that she submitted when she was applying for the position00:01:37.708
- 00:01:37.708
- of the director of National Gallery that was published00:01:41.399
- 00:01:41.399
- with the consent of Monika Burian at the web site of00:01:44.905
- 00:01:44.905
- the Society of Art Historians.00:01:47.494
- 00:01:47.494
- The situation became critical when- Jiří Fajt, selection committee member 2011:00:01:48.781
- 00:01:48.781
- they published what was in the subsequent weeks commented widely00:01:53.541
- 00:01:53.541
- by the media - that is the authenticity of the documents00:02:01.048
- 00:02:01.048
- that were part of Mrs. Šorfová's application.00:02:05.783
- 00:02:05.783
- I think Art+Antiques or Artalk were the first to express doubts on the00:02:09.469
- 00:02:09.469
- authenticity of the documents. I was not that surprised..00:02:19.926
- 00:02:19.926
- Of course I was surprised...but already when I read the documents00:02:26.053
- 00:02:26.053
- for the first time during the selection procedure,00:02:29.563
- 00:02:29.563
- I asked myself what management textbook was used..00:02:33.253
- 00:02:33.253
- it seemed very official. But I was bewildered00:02:37.227
- 00:02:37.227
- when other people expressed doubts, naturally, if they were right,00:02:44.441
- 00:02:44.441
- and in the end it turned out that they were,00:02:49.158
- 00:02:49.158
- then the committee became victims of a deceit.00:02:53.007
- 00:02:53.007
- This is outrageous, small children are00:02:59.865
- 00:02:59.865
- already taught that cheating is wrong. If one cheats, one must be punished.00:03:07.539
- 00:03:07.539
- I did not have much time to do it - Jana Šorfová, GASK director 2011:00:03:14.081
- 00:03:14.081
- but I didn't take away anyone's paper. I discussed the project with Noemi Smolik00:03:18.819
- 00:03:18.819
- I called her, I sent my project for her to see,00:03:24.811
- 00:03:24.811
- because of the exhibitions we wanted to do together.00:03:29.200
- 00:03:29.200
- At that time, I was also involved in another selection procedure00:03:32.044
- 00:03:32.044
- for the place in Husova Street. So I wasn't preparing just for GASK00:03:35.263
- 00:03:35.263
- because I had to also develop a concept for this other place.00:03:39.500
- 00:03:39.500
- At that time Monika Burian was abroad, I called her: I'm in trouble,00:03:44.995
- 00:03:44.995
- this is what I need...and I called other people I don't want to name00:03:49.574
- 00:03:49.574
- not to harm them - I asked: Are you going to collaborate with me?00:03:57.045
- 00:03:57.045
- I can tell you the name but please off the record...00:04:06.218
- 00:04:06.218
- I put together my experience and the materials I had at home.00:04:09.734
- 00:04:09.734
- I had to defend my proposal for two hours before the committee.00:04:18.218
- 00:04:18.218
- During the first hour they were asking me difficult questions00:04:21.349
- 00:04:21.349
- then we had a friendly talk about what to do with such a big institution.00:04:23.907
- 00:04:23.907
- At that time I really admired the work of Ondřej Horák and the whole team.00:04:28.716
- 00:04:28.716
- I thought they did an amazing job and that a team of curators is necessary00:04:32.808
- 00:04:32.808
- for the space at Husová Street. So this is my answer.00:04:39.200
- 00:04:39.200
- There was a part in her application that was dealing with economics.00:04:44.891
- 00:04:44.891
- I didn't look at it because I am no economist.00:04:48.606
- 00:04:48.606
- Noemi Smolik Artistic Director GASK 2011/201200:04:52.457
- 00:04:52.457
- So I cannot discuss it. She told me she copied it from a textbook00:04:56.446
- 00:04:56.446
- that also Mrs. Burian used for her application.00:05:00.730
- 00:05:00.730
- But the artistic part, the ideas.. I helped her so much with it00:05:04.493
- 00:05:04.493
- that it couldn't be plagiarism.00:05:07.725
- 00:05:07.725
- The conflict started with the scandal over plagiarism.00:05:11.040
- 00:05:11.040
- Ondřej Chrobák, chief curator of GASK 2009/2011:00:05:15.996
- 00:05:15.996
- A part of the selection procedure was a few-pages proposal.00:05:22.163
- 00:05:22.163
- When you read her project you didn't have the feeling00:05:32.382
- 00:05:32.382
- that it's a project of a director of an institution but that it's homework00:05:36.385
- 00:05:36.385
- of a first-year student of a private school of management not even in Prague00:05:42.868
- 00:05:42.868
- but somewhere in the countryside. It was really clearly stupid.00:05:51.141
- 00:05:51.141
- And then it turned out that it was not only stupid00:06:01.263
- 00:06:01.263
- but it was also a piece of plagiarism.00:06:07.934
- 00:06:07.934
- It was a project Monika Burian used a year ago00:06:11.708
- 00:06:11.708
- when she applied for the director of National Gallery00:06:16.753
- 00:06:16.753
- and she failed because of it. So this was the start of the conflict.00:06:23.887
- 00:06:23.887
- When it was published I thought it was necessary to see Mrs. Šorfová00:06:31.903
- 00:06:31.903
- which I did. We met in Prague just the two of us00:06:38.184
- 00:06:38.184
- Jiří Fajt, selection procedure committee 2011:00:06:43.235
- 00:06:43.235
- then she came to visit me in Berlin asking what I thought about00:06:46.352
- 00:06:46.352
- the whole situation. I told her if there was some truth in it00:06:53.658
- 00:06:53.658
- which seemed to be the case that she should leave.00:07:00.573
- 00:07:00.573
- I told her that the only right response to all of this was to leave.00:07:07.275
- 00:07:07.275
- And if she left it didn't mean that in a few years she couldn't come back00:07:13.518
- 00:07:13.518
- and be again active in the art field. But that there must be catharsis,00:07:21.469
- 00:07:21.469
- she must come to terms with her own wrong-doing. I thought it very important.00:07:26.949
- 00:07:26.949
- As a university teacher, I can't get over such ethical lapses00:07:35.950
- 00:07:35.950
- without denouncing them.00:07:43.835
- 00:07:43.835
- Jan Třeštík, director of GASK 2009/2011:00:07:46.116
- 00:07:46.116
- After it was published, I asked her twice to resign from the position.00:07:49.394
- 00:07:49.394
- I thought it was unacceptable for the GASK director to be a cheater00:07:54.559
- 00:07:54.559
- and she cheated, that was the fact, no discussion about it.00:07:57.936
- 00:07:57.936
- She put false information in her CV about the positions she held.00:08:01.545
- 00:08:01.545
- By submitting plagiarized material she humiliated herself.00:08:08.013
- 00:08:08.013
- I leave it to her conscience to come to terms with it.00:08:13.562
- 00:08:13.562
- I told her before it was discussed in the media00:08:18.974
- 00:08:18.974
- right after the first text, which wasn't so scandalous, appeared on Artalk00:08:23.932
- 00:08:23.932
- that it was going to be a blunder. She did not resign, then I asked her00:08:29.128
- 00:08:29.128
- for the second time and she didn't do it even if she promised to00:08:34.067
- 00:08:34.067
- in a discussion in which more people were involved.00:08:39.054
- 00:08:39.054
- Noemi Smolik, Artistic Director GASK 2011/2012:00:08:43.872
- 00:08:43.872
- Few weeks later Jana called me: You have no idea what was going on here00:08:46.739
- 00:08:46.739
- there are huge debts, this is a crime... I don't know what to do about it.00:08:50.496
- 00:08:50.496
- Třeštík is blackmailing me, he writes articles against me,00:08:54.883
- 00:08:54.883
- he wants me to leave. So I called Mr. Fajt:00:09:00.900
- 00:09:00.900
- Mr. Fajt, there are huge problems there, Jana is desperate, you promised00:09:06.929
- 00:09:06.929
- to support us. Couldn't we come to see you in Berlin?00:09:13.931
- 00:09:13.931
- So it was settled that we would meet Mr. Fajt in Berlin00:09:18.868
- 00:09:18.868
- - Jana, Mr. Fajt and me. Mysteriously, Mr. Třeštík was also there00:09:24.418
- 00:09:24.418
- till today it remains a mystery who actually told him about it.00:09:29.189
- 00:09:29.189
- They started to laugh at her telling her she was a hysteric00:09:32.531
- 00:09:32.531
- as men usually do. They told her to stop it and if she wouldn't -00:09:36.615
- 00:09:36.615
- Mr. Fajt said he knew Rath and he would call him on Monday00:09:40.809
- 00:09:40.809
- and that Rath would fire her on Monday. And they left.00:09:46.308
- 00:09:46.308
- I must say I was so angry about how they treated her00:09:53.704
- 00:09:53.704
- and when I saw all the papers and how the money went who knows where,00:09:58.993
- 00:09:58.993
- incredible things. So I said to Jana: we won't give up. You aren't leaving00:10:03.031
- 00:10:03.031
- whatever they say or write. You aren't leaving, you're staying here,00:10:08.220
- 00:10:08.220
- it will be OK, I will support you. That's how it was.00:10:14.355
- 00:10:14.355
- Jana Šorfová, GASK director since 2011: I went through the selection procedure00:10:18.778
- 00:10:18.778
- in the beginning of January, it was the 14th, and then on the 31st,00:10:22.136
- 00:10:22.136
- I learned in the media that I was chosen to be the director00:10:26.817
- 00:10:26.817
- then the Picasso scandal followed,00:10:29.305
- 00:10:29.305
- and right after, in the beginning of February00:10:32.128
- 00:10:32.128
- Mr. Skřivánek started to attack me through Artalk or Art+Antiques00:10:36.034
- 00:10:36.034
- because of the selection procedure. That seemed quite strange.00:10:43.361
- 00:10:43.361
- I was shocked that a lot of journalists wrote about me but didn't interview me.00:10:49.617
- 00:10:49.617
- Coming from Germany, I was naive and, when Mr. Třeštík told me in Berlin,00:11:04.729
- 00:11:04.729
- I told him that I was a journalist and I would write about it00:11:11.423
- 00:11:11.423
- and he told me and I am positive he did Czech journalists write only what00:11:15.815
- 00:11:15.815
- they are paid to write and I pay the best. He really told me this.00:11:22.670
- 00:11:22.670
- Jiří Fajt, selection procedure committee 2011:00:11:29.880
- 00:11:29.880
- While the situation was being discussed in the media for weeks or even months,00:11:34.480
- 00:11:34.480
- I tried to communicate with the people involved00:11:41.539
- 00:11:41.539
- be it Mrs. Šorfová or the governor Rath whom I also met. I tried to explain00:11:48.129
- 00:11:48.129
- to him the whole situation because he seemed to want to00:12:00.797
- 00:12:00.797
- stay out of it. He supported Mrs. Šorfová, he didn't want to admit00:12:06.491
- 00:12:06.491
- the ethical failure. This I didn't understand but I saw this was the usual00:12:14.462
- 00:12:14.462
- attitude of Czech politicians which has nothing to do with any moral code.00:12:24.993
- 00:12:24.993
- Mr. Rath's simply wasn't able to perceive the problem of Mrs. Šorfová's behavior00:12:33.650
- 00:12:33.650
- and act upon it, I think he should've. I went to see him a couple of times00:12:45.495
- 00:12:45.495
- but he insisted that nothing really happened. No one stole anything, he said,00:12:54.613
- 00:12:54.613
- which sounds strange from a person who was later accused of taking bribes.00:13:01.806
- 00:13:01.806
- In a way, it all fits in a puzzle.00:13:07.207
- 00:13:07.207
- The whole situation around the appointment of the new director00:13:09.793
- 00:13:09.793
- eventually led to resignation of six key employees of GASK including00:13:12.949
- 00:13:12.949
- the chief curator Ondřej Chrobák. They said they would change their mind00:13:20.436
- 00:13:20.436
- if Jana Šorfová left her position. Their decision was supported by many people00:13:25.556
- 00:13:25.556
- in the art field. Jana Šorfová, however, started to point out the lapses00:13:31.411
- 00:13:31.411
- in accounting and debts and blame the former team headed by Jan Třeštík.00:13:37.039
- 00:13:37.039
- The monthly contribution was00:13:44.970
- 00:13:44.970
- 00:13:44.970
- Klára Zubíková, Regional Councilor for Culture:00:13:51.915
- 00:13:51.915
- per year it was approximately 35 millions. This funding was then reduced00:13:56.727
- 00:13:56.727
- because that's the case everywhere now. It was reduced by 200 000 per month.00:14:02.695
- 00:14:02.695
- So Mrs. Šorfová's budget is more limited. Nevertheless, the debt that was caused00:14:11.485
- 00:14:11.485
- by not paying the invoices and by living above one's means00:14:19.059
- 00:14:19.059
- was 7,5 million and this is quite a lot. And this cannot00:14:24.033
- 00:14:24.033
- be tolerated. In institutions funded by public finance you are either above zero00:14:30.676
- 00:14:30.676
- or below and that's bad. Of course, when the institution is starting and00:14:35.997
- 00:14:35.997
- the situation is shaky, these things can happen00:14:40.786
- 00:14:40.786
- but I believe this debt would be much smaller if the money was managed00:14:49.017
- 00:14:49.017
- in a more reasonable way. My aim and the aim of doctor Rath00:14:56.396
- 00:14:56.396
- was to save the sinking, newly built Titanic by appointing a person00:15:05.338
- 00:15:05.338
- who thanks to his managerial skills would be able to save it.00:15:13.257
- 00:15:13.257
- During the interview, Mrs. Šorfová convinced me00:15:20.251
- 00:15:20.251
- that she fulfilled these criteria of mine.00:15:26.271
- 00:15:26.271
- Ondřej Chrobák, chief curator of GASK 2009/2011:00:15:31.891
- 00:15:31.891
- Jana Šorfová and Noemi Smolik started to spread terrible things about me.00:15:36.528
- 00:15:36.528
- They talked about alcoholism, they tried to make me look like an alcoholic00:15:45.120
- 00:15:45.120
- and a thief, they started to write emails and make phone calls about00:15:53.009
- 00:15:53.009
- how under Třeštík money was being stolen and that the resistance of the curators00:16:04.515
- 00:16:04.515
- was because Jana Šorfová knew it. The curators apparently were00:16:12.583
- 00:16:12.583
- also involved and that's why they were now against her to prevent00:16:19.494
- 00:16:19.494
- her from making it public. Perhaps I'm an alcoholic but I didn't steal anything.00:16:24.489
- 00:16:24.489
- Various artists have started calling me that we owe them money.00:16:37.834
- 00:16:37.834
- Jana Šorfová, GASK director since 2011: You didn't pay for the blinds,00:16:42.250
- 00:16:42.250
- you didn't pay this and that. The bookkeeper was mad,00:16:46.707
- 00:16:46.707
- the people at the Regional Council were mad and when people got to know that00:16:49.965
- 00:16:49.965
- I was the new director they started calling me that invoices weren't paid,00:16:54.132
- 00:16:54.132
- that things weren't finished. Ondřej Chrobák himself was00:16:58.782
- 00:16:58.782
- surprised that the new museum acquisitions weren't paid for.00:17:02.730
- 00:17:02.730
- They got the money for the acquisitions but they spent it on something else.00:17:06.747
- 00:17:06.747
- I wouldn't reproach them. They were starting a new institution00:17:11.400
- 00:17:11.400
- they had a deadline - it had to be opened in a year!00:17:18.608
- 00:17:18.608
- In the public sector, the distribution of money is a question of priorities.00:17:22.570
- 00:17:22.570
- For the region the priority could be purchase of an illuminated manuscript00:17:26.148
- 00:17:26.148
- for 20 million, this is the price of00:17:33.908
- 00:17:33.908
- 00:17:33.908
- So maybe you don't build a piece of highway but00:17:45.105
- 00:17:45.105
- instead an illuminated manuscript from the Middle Ages.00:17:48.370
- 00:17:48.370
- In any case, I don't think the priorities should be taken for granted,00:17:51.968
- 00:17:51.968
- they can be changed. But it should be a subject of a public discussion.00:18:00.549
- 00:18:00.549
- The purchase meant that if the authorities were willing we could buy art00:18:05.470
- 00:18:05.470
- we want, the public collections could acquire art from abroad,00:18:12.333
- 00:18:12.333
- from England etc. So it is not a question of money but a question of priorities.00:18:20.242
- 00:18:20.242
- If buying art is not a priority, we just don't buy it.00:18:26.360
- 00:18:26.360
- One of the main aims of the GASK exhibition program00:18:31.891
- 00:18:31.891
- was Jiří Fajt's long-term curatorial project. Europa Jagellonica co-funded00:18:36.580
- 00:18:36.580
- from the regional budget was supposed to end right00:18:43.292
- 00:18:43.292
- before the regional elections in 2012. The opening of the exhibition took place00:18:48.062
- 00:18:48.062
- already without David Rath.00:18:54.891
- 00:18:54.891
- I remember it and I don't see it as such a problem anymore. We've talked00:18:57.503
- 00:18:57.503
- a lot about it with Mr. Fajt. He apologized to me on the 1st of May00:19:04.330
- 00:19:04.330
- in a café under chestnut trees, I was drinking beer and he had mineral water.00:19:09.818
- 00:19:09.818
- We had to reduce the budget for the show a bit, we could not afford it.00:19:20.989
- 00:19:20.989
- Mr. Fajt apologized for the whole situation.00:19:30.935
- 00:19:30.935
- I put into the Europa Jagellonica project a lot of effort, work00:19:34.377
- 00:19:34.377
- and courage. So now when Mr. Skřivánek claims that I don't00:19:39.612
- 00:19:39.612
- deserve the credit for it that it is solely Mr. Fajt's project - that's just00:19:44.495
- 00:19:44.495
- sheer nonsense. He says I wasn't able to put together a team of people.00:19:47.548
- 00:19:47.548
- Mr. Fajt wanted us to set up a team. I told him to be careful about money.00:19:56.704
- 00:19:56.704
- This is very important. Mr. Fajt said: I want to have it like this...00:20:03.921
- 00:20:03.921
- This is another problem. As soon as the situation was becoming normal again,00:20:13.548
- 00:20:13.548
- Mr. Fajt made a lot of debts and again exceeded the budget so we're in the same00:20:20.274
- 00:20:20.274
- situation like a year ago. I don't know how it will continue.00:20:26.630
- 00:20:26.630
- Coming from Germany, I don't see how it's possible. If you have a contract00:20:35.882
- 00:20:35.882
- to do a show for 10 millions, you do it for 10 millions and not for 18.00:20:40.806
- 00:20:40.806
- If you do something like that in Germany, they sue you00:20:45.495
- 00:20:45.495
- and you pay till the end of your life. I don't understand00:20:49.384
- 00:20:49.384
- how something like this is possible!00:20:54.192
- 00:20:54.192
- Lately, it has been a remarkable tendency in the Czech Republic to appoint00:20:56.796
- 00:20:56.796
- managers without professional experience. If the institution is headed by00:21:03.830
- 00:21:03.830
- an expert who is unable to keep the balanced budget,00:21:07.729
- 00:21:07.729
- one can still rely on the expertise of the financial director00:21:11.415
- 00:21:11.415
- or accounting advisors. If the director is a manager without00:21:15.812
- 00:21:15.812
- professional experience and knowledge of the field, one can only hope that00:21:21.106
- 00:21:21.106
- he or she will not manage the institution according to00:21:25.018
- 00:21:25.018
- what is best for business.00:21:29.277
- 00:21:29.277
- They appointed Jana Šorfová because they thought she would be a puppet.00:21:33.605
- 00:21:33.605
- I was angry at Mr. Fajt for that. I always told him: Mr. Fajt,00:21:39.558
- 00:21:39.558
- Jana is no art historian, Jana isn't an expert.00:21:47.111
- 00:21:47.111
- And he said: This is just what we want, we need an organizer00:21:51.346
- 00:21:51.346
- who can take care of finances. But then he complained00:21:55.789
- 00:21:55.789
- that she was no art historian and that she was no expert.00:21:59.206
- 00:21:59.206
- They thought that if she wasn't an expert it would mean they could do00:22:01.570
- 00:22:01.570
- whatever they wanted and she would do as they liked.00:22:06.164
- 00:22:06.164
- Money was also the issue, what they did was bordering on crime.00:22:10.634
- 00:22:10.634
- Rath eventually ended up in prison and if I were Mr. Třeštík00:22:19.470
- 00:22:19.470
- I also wouldn't be so calm - I have to say....00:22:25.486
- 00:22:25.486
- I think this was unfortunate because Jan Třeštík, director of GASK 2009/2011:00:22:30.476
- 00:22:30.476
- the character and the approach of the governor was such that00:22:36.726
- 00:22:36.726
- even if he accepted some of my arguments ...and I insisted00:22:41.930
- 00:22:41.930
- that it would ruin the project. Even if she was much much better00:22:47.127
- 00:22:47.127
- than she actually was, such a start was bad00:22:54.987
- 00:22:54.987
- and it would influence the image of the whole institution.00:22:59.465
- 00:22:59.465
- I said this was a bad decision and I advised him to trust me in that.00:23:02.611
- 00:23:02.611
- But he told me: I'm not going to dismiss another director00:23:07.345
- 00:23:07.345
- after two months in office just because of speculation00:23:15.054
- 00:23:15.054
- which may or may not be correct. I have experienced such dirty things00:23:18.627
- 00:23:18.627
- in politics that this is a piece of cake. Let's have her for a year00:23:22.812
- 00:23:22.812
- to see what she can do. This was his attitude. Some people00:23:33.363
- 00:23:33.363
- from the region wanted to solve the situation in a different way00:23:41.086
- 00:23:41.086
- but because the governor said he wanted to give her a chance00:23:44.907
- 00:23:44.907
- and that he was aware of some problems and what the media say00:23:50.728
- 00:23:50.728
- but in the end he was happy about the media attention00:23:59.978
- 00:23:59.978
- and that people talked about GASK even if it was in a very bad way.00:24:07.196
- 00:24:07.196
- Ondřej Chrobák, chief curator of GASK 2009/2011:00:24:14.479
- 00:24:14.479
- If I should criticize myself for something it would be that00:24:18.830
- 00:24:18.830
- I underestimated the prestige the regional institution gained while I was there00:24:22.738
- 00:24:22.738
- because it failed to change the thinking of the authorities from the region00:24:36.093
- 00:24:36.093
- about the reason of the existence of such institutions and also00:24:43.899
- 00:24:43.899
- the perspective of the wider public. It attracted people who are like00:24:48.638
- 00:24:48.638
- vultures coming from the underworld of Czech art business.00:24:57.942
- 00:24:57.942
- And it is probably good that eventually I paid dearly for that00:25:02.978
- 00:25:02.978
- and so did GASK. It attracted people like Jana Šorfová, Monika Burian,00:25:09.209
- 00:25:09.209
- Roman Buxbaum, who started to see GASK as a platform for their activities.00:25:19.708
- 00:25:19.708
- I was sorry about some things related to the the Hirst or Mucha project.00:25:26.034
- 00:25:26.034
- These people were really smart in developing the projects.00:25:35.300
- 00:25:35.300
- GASK BUDGET/GASK DEBT/EUROPA JAGELLONICA/ ILLUMINATED SCRIPT/20 M OF HIGHWAY/ PICASSO00:25:41.390
- 00:25:41.390
- Film made by: Vjera Borozan, Jiří Havlíček, Johana Švarcová Special thanks to: Martin Mareček00:25:52.496
- 00:25:52.496
- Our thanks go to all whose comments have helped us to realize GASK - Part II.00:25:57.486
- 00:25:57.486
- In the very beginning, when I first came to the space at Husova Street00:26:08.980
- 00:26:08.980
- and there I saw the office space like from the National Heritage Institute00:26:15.889
- 00:26:15.889
- where my mum worked as an accountant in the mid 1980s. It was exactly the same.00:26:24.815
- 00:26:24.815
- I thought I discovered some kind of a crazy museum00:26:33.551
- 00:26:33.551
- located at the most touristic place in Prague where shops change constantly00:26:39.334
- 00:26:39.334
- and everything was radically different from twenty years ago.00:26:46.413
- 00:26:46.413
- And here I was in the museum of office culture from the 1970s00:26:51.084
- 00:26:51.084
- - also in the way it functioned. I thought it was funny, I didn't feel00:26:58.164
- 00:26:58.164
- any respect towards them, I have to admit openly.00:27:04.635
- 00:27:04.635
- But then I look back at myself and my role of someone who helped Jana Šorfová00:27:09.510
- 00:27:09.510
- or Monika Burian to get into these structures.00:27:18.620
- 00:27:18.620
- I thought I was trying to update the institution and give it some00:27:24.181
- 00:27:24.181
- real meaning and I honestly tried to do it. The former curatorial team00:27:35.184
- 00:27:35.184
- of the Czech Museum of Visual Arts was perhaps funny.00:27:52.518
- 00:27:52.518
- But I am really afraid of these new people. They move in a sphere00:27:57.688
- 00:27:57.688
- bordering on crime and this wouldn't happen in the old institution.00:28:05.002
- 00:28:05.002
- When I think about it and I don't have the answer..00:28:12.749
- 00:28:12.749
- but I feel closer to this 1970s office culture, it seems more meaningful00:28:17.494
- 00:28:17.494
- than this crazy space of dark, weird business.00:28:25.442
- 00:28:25.442
- If I knew it would turn out as it finally did, I would let them00:28:39.551
- 00:28:39.551
- live there in peace. It would be actually nice00:28:44.748
- 00:28:44.748
- if such a museum of the 1970s office culture remained in place.00:28:47.985
- 00:28:47.985
- 00:28:52.081
