Francouzský ekvivalent místa noční disko zábavy je boîte – jinak krabice či schránka. Dnes již diskotéku není nutné předvádět ve schránkách velikosti místnosti, místo působení se deformuje, přetváří na hru s efektem někde uprostřed křemíkových nebes našich domácností. Vnějšek se uzavírá dovnitř, světlo se rozptyluje, pohyb těla mizí. Necháváme se zde unášet spíše než vtíravou popmusic jistým druhem neslyšitelného chrčení, ozařujeme se pravoúhlými oltářními deskami na našich stolech, tančíme uvnitř sama sebe, dokonale napojeni na okolní svět. Důraz je přitom kladen také na design a užitou funkci. Tyto rychle se proměňující architektury nahrazují funkce skříní, odpadišť, úložišť, nesmyslných archivů, ztělesňují vizi budoucího času. Jejich mechanickým obnažením však ztratí všechny masky, vymaže se paměť, aktivuje černá díra fyzického dna. Zůstává pouze popel jako metafora ztracené důvěry ve věc.
The exhibition "Dark Box" is a result of a collaboration of five authors:
Martin Bražina, Jakub Geltner, Jan Maštera, Michal Pustějovský,
and Viktor Vejvoda from the Studio of New Media I at AVU
and the Studio of Photography FAMU who often work together,
influence each other and who in their works
have a conversation with each other. The concept of the exhibition
was focused on the current thinking of these authors
that evolves around the technological conditioning of our reality,
the source of virtual reality, i.e., computer,
and the center of its activities - the hard disc.
And that is how the concept of a discotheque came about.
The presented works originated in our intense debate
be it on the concept of the show or on each of the works.
The connection with the discotheque is only passing and superficial,
it alludes to the time which people used to spend
actually hanging out and having fun
while today they are having fun by sitting in front of a computer,
isolated, immersed in themselves communicating with a virtual world
in which they remain because of the computer and technology.
The second issue we wanted to present in the dark room
of the exhibition is the space of a church or the analogy with the church.
For what today seems to be the source of modern spirituality
and what today's technological individual
worships is the computer and technology as such.
