Why the title "Werich"?
The name Werich is used here
as a symbol of the positivist worldview,
of a world that is inhabited by nice people
who believe in the contemporary zeitgeist
and work towards progress.
This modernist world
is connected with certain signs and symbols
that Vít Svoboda and Jan Brož use in their drawings.
Jan Brož's drawings are more explicit.
They are serious comments on social and political issues,
presenting today's problems with a modernist touch.
Vít Svoboda uses similar symbols
but his creative style has been influenced
by the 80's and 90's graffiti art,
that is graffiti art before it became an empty form.
While Jan's drawings are rather conceptual and serious,
Vít works more intuitively,
interconnecting various levels and symbols.
He shows the reality we live in,
where symbols are devoid of meaning.
It is a kind of critical dialog or a supplement.
