    Ladislav Čarný (1949) patrí k výrazným predstaviteľom generácie umelcov, ktorí nastupovali na slovenskú scénu v 70. rokoch minulého storočia.

    Prvotné zaujatie jazykom maľby, zrkadlovými objektmi, svetlom a interpretáciami sa postupne rozširuje na nájdené objekty, ucelené inštalácie, svetelné a procesuálne umenie. Po roku 2000 Čarný programovo uplatňuje svoje post-konceptuálne postupy v oblasti nových médií v podobe TV-objektov, video-skupltúr či interaktívnych inštalácií.

    Súčasná výstava Ladislava Čarného Hermeneutiká nemá retrospektívny charakter, ale v istom zmysle zúročuje jeho smerovanie posledných rokov. Spojovací článok v tom príbehu tvoria dva vstupné „stĺpy“ Hermesov, pokryté kryštalickou soľou, halitom, modrou skalicou a pod., ktoré demonštrujú prebiehanie chemických a fyzikálnych procesov ako symbol transformácie významov. Vychádzajúc zo samotného názvu výstavy spoločným menovateľom vystavených diel je reflexia textov, ich vnímania a výkladu ako aj (ne)možnosť čítania kultúrnych kontextov. Autor túto nosnú ideu „obrazotextu“ uplatňuje v rozličných rovinách: na výstave sa objavujú mužské a ženské ústa, ktoré vyslovujú hlásky a zvuky, do ktorých sa divák musí ponoriť; ďalej v prítmí vnímame levitujúce SLOVO a prekrývanie jeho synonymami (výraz, floskula, pojem…). V UV-svetle sa zjavujú písané a kódované slová, či celé dotieravé filozofické otázky, ktoré divák odkrýva iba svojím tieňom, keď sa pohybuje popri stene. Úvod a záver výstavy je v znamení televízneho a filmového obrazu: na začiatku návštevník prejde sálou 14 televízorov, ktoré sú však za mrežami a otočené k stene, kým na konci sa dostáva do záplavy útržkov kultových filmov (ready-movies) v staromeštianskom interiéri. Výstava tak metaforicky otvára mnohé otázky významu slova, jeho očisťovaniu, zanášaniu alebo prepisovaniu, ako aj otázky neprístupnosti, zablokovanosti, či nemožnosti prečítania zmyslu obrazovej informácie v dnešnom mediálnom svet(l)e. Prebiehajúce vizualizácie slova, textov a kontextov v pohyblivom elektronickom obraze len plasticky dotvárajú toto hybridné „tekuté“ prostredie v nestabilnom priestore masových slov a médií.

    The architecture of the premises
    forms one line going through several rooms.
    I decided not to break the line.
    Sometimes I fell sorry that I also exhibited paintings.
    I decided that it would be about a text and a context.
    By a text I understand mainly the visual side of the text not the verbal side.
    The whole line goes through a group of television.
    There are 14 televisions.
    It must always evoke something.
    We are always with one foot in tradition and with the other in experiment.
    The fourteen television may be Calvary.
    It has certain gradation like Calvary.
    These media aren´t accessible because
    viewers perceive them from the cage.
    A viewer can stop and watch, he can listen to the sound.
    He has to start to communicate.
    But it is difficult because he can´t see and hear almost anything.
    Then you have to enter a mouth uttering phones.
    My idea was that when you go through this mounth
    you will hit a wall that may surprise you.
    Then there is my older installation.
    I always install it differently.
    I think you can see it.
    I won´t describe it.
    Then there is an installation of a big eye written in a digital code.
    It is a concrete text, but it is very hermeneutic so
    no programmer will be able to read it.
    I stuck to the structure of the text.
    When the lights switch off, the fluorescent text can´t be seen anymore.
    On the floor they are old cloths with texts.
    These text are written with phosphor.
    It shines even in the dark.
    They are text on wandering.
    When you unroll the cloths in the dark,
    you will see only the letters that have been enlightened before.
    An interesting texture originates and you stop wandering.
    Next thing is an installation
    where I project cult movies.
    I did it for the first time in the gallery Space three years ago.
    I like movies. It´s my hobby.
    I try to find pictures, edit them, and combinate them.
    I work with them as an artist not as a director.
    I am interested in their visuality not in the plot or context.
    I collect films, also for students.
    It gives many possibilities.
    I could make several exhibition.
    For example, I could clone Bergman with Fellini.
    They deal with the same theme but still they are so different.
