Projekt reaguje na dve mestské centrá (historické, chránené UNESCO-m a sídlisko Drieňová vybudované počas socializmu). Novovzniknutý priestor pre kultúru BANSKÁ ST A NICA v priestoroch železničnej stanice, iniciovaný o.z. Štokovec v roku 2008, predstavuje „nové kultúrne centrum“ mesta. Kultúrna vitalizácia urbánnej osy medzi centrami novovytvorenou líniou kopírujúcou hlavnú tepnu (od historického centra, cez kruhový objazd až po železničnú stanicu) poskytla priestor na realizáciu diel, v ktorých autori využili stratégie média sochy, nových médií a intermédií, fotografie, soundartu a konceptuálneho umenia. Diela reagujú na mesto, jeho dávnu i modernú históriu a do procesu svojej tvorby zapojili i obyvateľov.

"Medzicentrum" is project of a workshop character.
It was set up by postgraduate students from two universities,
the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava, and in Banska Bystrica,
namely Nina Šošková, Jana Kapelová, Matúš Pšenko, and Ján Viazanička.
This workshop format was meant to to bring together students
from different schools, as well as to confront and compare
their respective quality, attitudes, and teaching methods.
The title describes situations or places positioned between something official,
in the centre of attention, and that which is on the periphery.
This relates to the schools because
Bratislava is more dominant than Banská Bystrica.
However, it describes the situation in Banská Štiavnica.
where the students were working in the field
between several centres, the historical, and the peripheral, Drievňová,
housing estate built under the socialism,
where majority of the people live.
The same could be said about the position of our organization which also stands
on the margin, not of interest,
but on a periphery of the town.
The workshop culminated with the opening exhibition at the train station building.
It was nice that installations from all over town were concentrated in the station hall.
There were videos, slide shows, and happenings in the streets.
What I personally enjoyed the most
was work by a first-year student
from the Academy of Fine Arts in Banská Bystrica,
and Pavel Mackov, who worked with sound,
recording street sounds, going from the centre to the periphery.
This recording was then being broadcast on the renovated railway station radio.
Another work that may have affected the locals was by Juraj Gábor from Bratislava.
He simulated a possibly unsettling situation
that could potentially happen at the location in focus, Štiavnica´s calvary.
So he took pictures of preparations of some hypothetical
building development conspiracy that could take place there.
He then exhibited the photos at such busy, visible places as bus stations,
ad spaces, or public notice boards, normally used for official purposes,
so we ourselves are curious if somebody ends up
writing to the local newspaper enquiring
whether the calvary is really going to be turned into a construction site,
or whether the building activities are focused exclusively on the historical centre.
