Events v "Praha|Prague"
Ateliér Jana Híska plný maleb, grafiky a čeho ješte? Rychlé šípy v malé galerii města Prahy 1 plus starosta Filip Dvořák (sec?). Chodov nákupní centrum a lesní zvěř s pastelkou.
"Alps Im Der Morning Sunschöne"
With the format so large one can sink into it,
dive in, like into a pond,
surrounded by those creatures that are splashing around.
This here is a "forestine", a forest creture.
I began here in the middle and when I had finished
all these forest flowers, I started doing a different structure
in a different spot, putting a spell over it,
and then added more dark structures
resemblant of forest flowers and creatures, creating a different spell.
And added to that are thousands of tiny little angels,
creatures and forest animals, flying around, drawing you in,
telling you something... It is kind of a rustle, this picture.
The bigger it is, the more you get drawn in.
But I also do very small things, miniatures, even,
that nobody can see, almost, people need a magnifying glass
just in order to see them. I don't need one myself, yet.
I draw outdoors when I travel, but the drawings are different from the paintings.
They are minute initiations that come to me as I sit before a cliff, waves, ...
then suddenly, without looking, I do a watercolour, for instance.
And it is something completely different, touch of the landscape.
The moment. I have hundreds of such drawings.
So far, I have only exhibited a few.
The rest I have kept, like my childhood pictures.
- "Otto, hello, that picture we did has dried, you should come,
take a look... I'm looking at it now...
Happy birthday, too. I'll come down tomorrow,
bring you something... can't wait... Bye"
Prague 1, regrettably, cannot afford a more grandiose exhibition
that Rychlé šípy and Jaroslav Foglar would surely deserve.
This location was chosen deliberately, because this is one of the two places
within Prague 1 where perhaps lay the legendary Stínadla.
The proof that this - according to recent investigations - more favoured spot,
is the location of Foglar's stories, could be the map,
which was used for one of the boys' games.
There, right near the St. Anne's monastery, is the white spot,
with the description "Stínadla" in brackets.
The map, of course, can be viewed in detail as part of this exhibition,
When I was little, I not only read Rychlé šípy all the time,
but I also lived through those stories, growing up near the second monastery,
that of St. Anežka, where the National Gallery resided,
but in times of Jaroslav Foglar, the monastery had been in ruin,
surrounded by the old tenament houses with those back alleys
and narrow streats that feature in his stories.
As for the name, Stínadla (stín - shadow), one of the theories is that
it was derived from the long shadows cast along the narrow streets,
the phenomenon so often featuring in the stories of Jaroslav Foglar...
