The title of our exhibition is
"Almost Nothing Is Complete".
We exhibit here our drawing experiments,
our performances focusing on drawing.
In each of them,
we choose a different profession
and use it for drawing,
or we choose an obstacle
and try to draw despite of it.
We have no control over the whole process,
we're only interested in the result
that is never perfect, of course.
We're also interested in the process of creation.
The videos are projected on canvases
containing the drawings.
For instance, there is a cello painting.
We asked a cellist to play a piece for us.
We fastened a pencil on her bow,
so she drew the piece on a canvas while playing.
In the back, you can see some drafts
of drawings that we haven't realized yet.
Some of them are not even feasible.
We made them to show
the wide range of options that drawing offers.
These objects used to serve for casting molds.
We had a photo showing them,
so we went to an old factory
to find them.
Finally we found these particular objects
that seemed to be quite expressive by themselves,
as they came from that shabby old factory
that reminded us so strongly of the 1990's
and of the many mistakes of that time.
I recently read an extract from a SF novel
entitled "A Canticle for Leibovitz",
or something like that.
The story is set
in a post-apocalyptic society
where the remains of knowledge
are kept by monks.
A novice finds a draft of a mechanical device
and tries to improve it
by adding cherubs
and golden leaves,
without understanding its actual meaning.
And our situation is similar.
We found some objects
but we don't know their exact purpose
or how they were made.
They're just colorful sculptures to us,
it's pure formalism.
I exhibit here an installation
consisting of four paper dioramas
and some texts.
The texts tell stories
about several artists.
They are modern hagiographies
about what an artist should look like,
illustrated by the pictures.
The main theme of this installation
is the relationship
between the artist and society,
or the compatibility of the artist's life
with the world he or she has to live in.
I used this form simply because I like it,
I like these realistic, colorful,
child-like paintings.
