Stoly bývají různé: jídelní, pracovní, psací, konferenční… Činnosti, kterým slouží odlišné typy stolů, mají něco společného: jsou to sociálně kodifikované tělesné úkony.

Musíme se jim učit a také umět poznat patřičnou činnost, ke které je daný stůl určen. Tyto úkony jsou vykonávány na stole nebo aspoň nad ním. Stůl tedy tvoří jakousi platformu, která zakládá společensky přijatelné užití těla.

To, co se odehrává na stole, se děje na horní ploše jeho desky. Stůl je vlastně právě tato rovina. To znamená, že všechny věci na stole si jsou v zásadě rovné. Jistě – některé jsou dražší, jiné zase užitečnější, některé právě používáme, jiné zrovna nepotřebujeme – podstatné ale je, že všechny tyto věci jsou vzájemně souměřitelné, mohou spolu vstupovat do vztahů, mohou si vyměňovat místa, mají právo zabírat prostor na ploše stolu. Smést něco se stolu znamená provést totální likvidaci.

Exploitation has always been a part

since ready-mades. Of course, these were
an artistic innovation back then,
but now they're almost automatic.
They're nothing exceptional.
Art is connected with work
and with one's relationship to work.
And that's a theme I like to deal with,
I like to experiment with the exploitation
of other people's or my own works.
Oh, you want to see an interesting effect?
This event is meant to refer
to a clean-cut boundary that serves to divide
the upper and the lower part of the body,
as the metaphor of a clear demarcation line
between the instinctive and the intellectual.
This is reflected in the installation.
Works connected with extreme situations,
crimes and the dark side of life
are combined with geometrical shapes
that serve as a boundary.
The work you can see behind me
includes a contract
between the prison in Kuřim and myself.
It asks prisoners serving time for sex crimes
to make a life-size sculpture
representing themselves, like a self-portrait.
They did it and signed the contract with me
to have the sculpture exhibited here.
But I wanted this situation of excesses
to continue so I didn't put the sculpture here.
They'll never know, they're in prison.

exploit other people's work.
One small exception to this
is the work consisting of a borrowed letter
written by the murderer of Otýlie Vranská
in 1933.
It's an anonymous confession of the murderer
who was never caught.
For some reason, he drew a geometric grid
over the letter. I'm interested
in this sort of negative creativity
that may be the purest kind of creativity,
something that any artist looks for.
Just like the creativity of children,
the creativity of criminals
is very pure in a way.
