The exhibition Space (8850m vertical) is a selection of works of Slovakian and Austrian artists. Their common interest is a concern for space phenomenon, its perception and transformation in drawing, video, installation and object.
"Space (8850m vertical)"
is an exhibition of works by Slovak and Austrian authors.
The common theme of the exhibition is space,
the way it is perceived
and transferred.
The transfer occurs, for instance,
through the perception of space in a certain place and time,
and refers to the transfer to a certain media,
such as in the work by Peter Wehinger.
It's an object after which the exhibition has been named.
The information "8850m vertical" is connected
with Mount Everest.
Peter has created a cube containing black thread
of that length.
Miriam Laussegger exhibits her installation "Plinth".
Its "main character" is a common plinth
known from galleries.
The author filmed it and made it into a video installation.
The installation also includes shots from the video,
showing the shift of an object from 3D
towards an abstract 2D form.
Daniela KrajËov·'s video "Vedutas"
was created during her stay in Mexico as a resident artist.
She also did a lot of travelling across Mexico.
Unlike traditional tourists taking pictures,
she would draw the places she visited.
Later she made an animation out of the drawings.
In this way, her memories from Mexico
are transformed into a fictional animated album.
The Austrian artist Eva Beierheimer
presents an installation
that includes one object and several drawings.
The drawings depict bridges in Bratislava and Vienna.
There are three bridges from each city.
She was interested in the structure of the bridges,
but instead of emphasizing their architectural substance,
she focused rather on the empty space around them
to show that it is shaped by the structures.
The work of Rastislav Podoba is represented by two drawings
of the same title - "That Place".
They show a functionalist building
during the day and at night.
The diurnal drawing is based on a photograph
and the nocturnal one is a result of his imagination.
