The student-show Digital Media, taking place at The House of Arts in Bratislava brings together work from the Banská Bystrica and Košice’s schools with Michal Murin’s Digital Media Studio. The exhibition is part of the Vafex audio-visual festival organised by Murin.
The exhibition Digital Media in The House of Arts, Bratislava
presents two schools outside the capital city,
the Academy of Arts in Bánská bystrica
and the faculty of Visual Arts, especially the studios
Intermedia and Digital Media.
As our guests we have invited the Technical University,
the Faculty of Arts from the studio of Anna Tréterová,
the studio of new media.
The student works that we present here
are part of a larger project
which is the Vafex audio-video festival.
During its six years, some 60 events have taken place.
This event is a kind of climax of the six years.
From Košice installations, there are interactive works
as well as a stand-alone one-hour video set.
The exhibition is laid out so that its format is not uniform.
There are twenty quasi-workplaces, or cubicles,
where videoarts are presented, or video performances,
experimental films and so on.
As for the themes, thery are either the medium as a reference,
examination of the medium itself, video installations
devoted to their own examnination,
study of their environment, and so on.
There are also themes related to gender studies,
physicality. We have a special subject
dedicated to video experimentation,
so there is another half-hour set of such films.
There are themes such as the attack on public space,
acoustic attack in particular,
or internet attack, by creating a virus which was
able to spread into 70 countries and 50,000 computers,
operating for some six months.
This virus, as a screensaver, would override works
by the students from Bánská bystrica.
In the next phase of the more complicated things,
there is net art, the ten-minute machinima film,
or a virtual museum which is my art project where I have,
apart from my twenty actual cubicles, inserted another twenty,
where there are some of the same things, as well as others, that is,
more interactive, so thery are post-production demos of these installations.
A seperate cubicle is devoted to documentary film work.
There are two works, by Arnold Kojnok, a documentary about Milan Adamčiak.
The other 20-minute document is an experimental video documentary
about the Koš village which has been sinking into the ground and
the name of the film is "In the Slumps".
