VERONIKA ŠRAMATYOVÁ: BARTER COLLECTION

The project entitled “Barter Collection” by Veronika Šramatyová originated in 2005. It consists of a series of photorealistic portrait paintings depicting contemporary Slovak artists. The author employs the demanding technique of gouache and subsequently barters her paintings for works of the portrayed artists. An important aspect of the project is the effort of the author to build her own art collection of contemporary Slovak artworks by trading her works for the works of other artists. Since the project is still open, the author admits the possibility of future collaboration with foreign artists. The project is limited neither by a specific number of exchanges nor by defining a particular medium used in the works offered by the fellow artists, although the author prefers paintings. Many exchanges have taken place since 2005, and not only with the authors of the young generation, but also with renowned contemporary Slovak artists like Daniel Fischer, Erik Binder, Michal Moravčík, Svätopluk Mikyta, Erik Šille, Michal Černušák, Marcel Mališ, Milan Vagač, or Lucia Tallová.
