- Studio of New Media II led by Anna Daučíková00:00:09.692
- 00:00:09.692
- Yes, New Media are not entirely new now.00:00:18.075
- 00:00:18.075
- Nevertheless, the term has an exact meaning.00:00:24.480
- 00:00:24.480
- It refers to works containing digital,00:00:32.533
- 00:00:32.533
- technical, moving or static image.00:00:37.568
- 00:00:37.568
- It covers all image techniques00:00:42.678
- 00:00:42.678
- invented after photography.00:00:48.011
- 00:00:48.011
- The term includes many things with many different names.00:00:52.909
- 00:00:52.909
- For instance, New Media00:00:58.389
- 00:00:58.389
- can be called time-dependent media,00:01:02.710
- 00:01:02.710
- liquid media,00:01:06.947
- 00:01:06.947
- electronic media, or the art of projection.00:01:16.386
- 00:01:16.386
- All this is the focus of our attention.00:01:21.917
- 00:01:21.917
- However, we don't want to define it too strictly.00:01:28.818
- 00:01:28.818
- We let the borders become blurry00:01:34.597
- 00:01:34.597
- and we don't stick to a rigid approach to media.00:01:39.205
- 00:01:39.205
- We rather focus on the image00:01:45.355
- 00:01:45.355
- used in the contemporary visual arts,00:01:51.126
- 00:01:51.126
- whatever it means.00:01:56.126
- 00:01:56.126
- Well, to talk about what we do in the studio...00:02:01.219
- 00:02:01.219
- Especially in the first part of each semester00:02:06.714
- 00:02:06.714
- we work with verbal resources. We talk a lot.00:02:12.474
- 00:02:12.474
- We talk about many things.00:02:18.520
- 00:02:18.520
- At the beginning,00:02:22.582
- 00:02:22.582
- we have a series of meetings00:02:28.650
- 00:02:28.650
- where we project a large amount of materials,00:02:32.516
- 00:02:32.516
- films or videos,00:02:37.857
- 00:02:37.857
- discussing topics set in advance.00:02:42.853
- 00:02:42.853
- We go through the topics00:02:48.068
- 00:02:48.068
- during four or five "warm-up" discussions.00:02:52.364
- 00:02:52.364
- We believe that during the 5 years of study,00:02:58.213
- 00:02:58.213
- we should make a student experience00:03:04.109
- 00:03:04.109
- about twenty topics00:03:10.398
- 00:03:10.398
- connected with contemporary art and world.00:03:14.465
- 00:03:14.465
- We deal with sociocultural and political contexts,00:03:20.299
- 00:03:20.299
- with the way they are reflected00:03:27.627
- 00:03:27.627
- in artistic creation and expression.00:03:31.487
- 00:03:31.487
- Our studio is a young one, we've been here for a year.00:03:41.091
- 00:03:41.091
- We don't know yet what the students will go through00:03:47.043
- 00:03:47.043
- but we may be able to anticipate it.00:03:53.009
- 00:03:53.009
- I feel that our main approach00:03:59.467
- 00:03:59.467
- is for each student to find their own way.00:04:03.773
- 00:04:03.773
- What they do is up to them.00:04:10.093
- 00:04:10.093
- However, we are here00:04:16.432
- 00:04:16.432
- to open different doors for them,00:04:22.594
- 00:04:22.594
- and to open them in an original, individual way.00:04:27.679
- 00:04:27.679
- Because artists don't specialize in anything,00:04:35.610
- 00:04:35.610
- they're able to grasp anything00:04:43.257
- 00:04:43.257
- and to take a stand on it00:04:48.951
- 00:04:48.951
- without getting to know it perfectly.00:04:52.451
- 00:04:52.451
- And my stand is very different from Jana's.00:04:56.846
- 00:04:56.846
- This creates a positive feeling of suspense.00:05:02.729
- 00:05:02.729
- The influence is very... OK, I'll just say it.00:05:08.020
- 00:05:08.020
- It's beneficial to all of us.00:05:12.712
- 00:05:12.712
- Seeing these two completely different attitudes00:05:20.594
- 00:05:20.594
- might move the students to adopt their own.00:05:26.532
- 00:05:26.532
- That's a small miracle we expect from each project.00:05:33.641
- 00:05:33.641
- But not as a rule.00:05:39.578
- 00:05:39.578
- We have here a group of students00:05:43.814
- 00:05:43.814
- with very different approaches and personalities.00:05:47.783
- 00:05:47.783
- During the past two semesters I had to work hard00:05:54.033
- 00:05:54.033
- to get to know them,00:06:00.214
- 00:06:00.214
- to be able to come up with relevant suggestions.00:06:05.246
- 00:06:05.246
- It's been very interesting.00:06:12.015
- 00:06:12.015
- Jana has been very helpful,00:06:16.097
- 00:06:16.097
- together with Michal Cáb in the first semester.00:06:19.597
- 00:06:19.597
- Jana has a very different perspective from me,00:06:26.659
- 00:06:26.659
- a one that knows no prejudice.00:06:42.723
- 00:06:42.723
- In a way, it stems from her innocence00:06:46.806
- 00:06:46.806
- of a young person. It's a very creative situation.00:06:50.981
- 00:06:50.981
- Her contribution is really valuable.00:06:57.123
