- 00:00:03.415
- Since 2006 I've been analyzing the way public space is used,00:00:11.097
- 00:00:11.097
- the way it's politicized00:00:17.414
- 00:00:17.414
- and how to give it back to the people.00:00:20.924
- 00:00:20.924
- I'm interested in scientific information00:00:27.476
- 00:00:27.476
- and the principles of cyberspace00:00:33.420
- 00:00:33.420
- that can be applied to art and the real world.00:00:37.902
- 00:00:37.902
- Among these are the Web 2.0 principles00:00:43.917
- 00:00:43.917
- of sharing and modularity,00:00:49.266
- 00:00:49.266
- or the principle of open source00:00:53.119
- 00:00:53.119
- that stems from the open source movement.00:00:57.485
- 00:00:57.485
- It's about openness and easy readability00:01:02.680
- 00:01:02.680
- of complex systems, such as politics,00:01:07.180
- 00:01:07.180
- and also free sharing.00:01:11.170
- 00:01:11.170
- I've been using all this in a long-term project00:01:14.976
- 00:01:14.976
- called "Manuals for Public Space".00:01:20.449
- 00:01:20.449
- It's a mobile library with manuals00:01:25.449
- 00:01:25.449
- created during workshops around the library.00:01:30.266
- 00:01:30.266
- During them, we discuss the problems of public space,00:01:35.266
- 00:01:35.266
- trying to edit instructions to solve them.00:01:41.328
- 00:01:41.328
- Several projects have already been launched.00:01:46.464
- 00:01:46.464
- For instance, there's a project called "Teleterrorism".00:01:52.038
- 00:01:52.038
- A group of people agree they need, let's say,00:01:58.002
- 00:01:58.002
- bike racks in front of a supermarket.00:02:03.162
- 00:02:03.162
- So they call the supermarket every day,00:02:07.565
- 00:02:07.565
- until they have their way.00:02:12.345
- 00:02:12.345
- That's the spirit of free sharing of ideas.00:02:15.777
- 00:02:15.777
- A part of it can be seen online,00:02:20.777
- 00:02:20.777
- on a wiki page where people can share their ideas.00:02:25.367
- 00:02:25.367
- It's a way to create an international community.00:02:30.887
- 00:02:30.887
- Another of my works is "Cardboard Boxes and a Helicopter".00:02:36.383
- 00:02:36.383
- It analyzes the power of repetitive images,00:02:42.815
- 00:02:42.815
- the way they are imprinted in us by the media.00:02:47.896
- 00:02:47.896
- I used the well known symbol of the Twin Towers.00:02:53.084
- 00:02:53.084
- In a simple way,00:02:58.683
- 00:02:58.683
- I tried to replace some elements of the event,00:03:01.683
- 00:03:01.683
- to see whether the event will still be recognizable.00:03:07.783
- 00:03:07.783
- I replaced the buildings with cardboard boxes00:03:14.173
- 00:03:14.173
- and the planes with a toy helicopter.00:03:20.039
- 00:03:20.039
- The helicopter crashes into a box00:03:24.874
- 00:03:24.874
- but the box doesn't fall, unlike the helicopter.00:03:29.103
- 00:03:29.103
- Everything is inverse and yet it still evokes the event.00:03:34.759
- 00:03:34.759
- Next I'd like to talk about one of my works00:03:42.020
- 00:03:42.020
- of participational character.00:03:47.040
- 00:03:47.040
- It's an attempt to create a fictitious prize00:03:50.567
- 00:03:50.567
- for the best public artwork,00:03:56.555
- 00:03:56.555
- as a reaction to the current trends in Slovakia,00:04:00.114
- 00:04:00.114
- such as the statue of Svätopluk00:04:05.715
- 00:04:05.715
- or other statues, controversial for their nationalism00:04:09.245
- 00:04:09.245
- and artistic value.00:04:15.071
- 00:04:15.071
- In this work participated six curators.00:04:18.965
- 00:04:18.965
- We established a committee00:04:24.069
- 00:04:24.069
- to award a prize for public art.00:04:27.569
- 00:04:27.569
- The winner was István Csákány.00:04:31.069
- 00:04:31.069
- There was also an award for the worse public artwork00:04:34.515
- 00:04:34.515
- that went to the statue of Svätopluk.00:04:40.217
- 00:04:40.217
- As my presentation at Oskár Čepan Award,00:04:45.021
- 00:04:45.021
- I want to continue with the "Manuals for Public Space".00:04:50.029
