galerie m.odla
Galerie funguje letos už sedmým rokem a proběhlo v ní okolo 36 výstav.

- M.odla Gallery00:00:11.138
- 00:00:11.138
- The M.odla Gallery originated as a school project00:00:21.649
- 00:00:21.649
- when I was given a task to leave a message.00:00:27.123
- 00:00:27.123
- Because in this building there was a display window that was broken and unused00:00:31.482
- 00:00:31.482
- I thought of leaving a note to my neighbours00:00:37.354
- 00:00:37.354
- with whom I also wanted to get a little acquainted00:00:42.193
- 00:00:42.193
- since I had lived here for a few years knowing only a couple of people in this building.00:00:48.354
- 00:00:48.354
- So, with a help from Jaro Dufek with whom we had founded Photo 5,00:00:53.651
- 00:00:53.651
- we fixed the window and I installed a collage there00:00:58.986
- 00:00:58.986
- in which I left the message to the neighbours.00:01:03.993
- 00:01:03.993
- Then after it hung there for some time00:01:11.497
- 00:01:11.497
- I thought it could become a permanent feature00:01:15.921
- 00:01:15.921
- in which the content of the window would change over time,00:01:20.049
- 00:01:20.049
- thus decorating the corridor of the house,00:01:24.714
- 00:01:24.714
- as well as starting a tradition of vernissages there,00:01:29.010
- 00:01:29.010
- where visitors from the outside could mix with the neighbours from the inside.00:01:33.298
- 00:01:33.298
- So it was also meant as a means of getting people to meet00:01:39.026
- 00:01:39.026
- and we began doing regular exhibitions.00:01:43.977
- 00:01:43.977
- Some of the neighbours liked it from the beginning00:01:48.146
- 00:01:48.146
- and still keep on attending while the others don't seem to mind,00:01:52.409
- 00:01:52.409
- or at least they have never complained and perhaps they appreciate00:01:56.537
- 00:01:56.537
- the fact that every now and then something nice is displayed in their corridor.00:02:02.170
- 00:02:02.170
- When M.odla was starting it was one of the first offspace installations.00:02:16.833
- 00:02:16.833
- Since then many more have emerged in various windows, passageways, or homes.00:02:23.227
- 00:02:23.227
- But at the time I had considered the concept to be quite original.00:02:29.114
- 00:02:29.114
- For instance, I was inspired by the Ládví group which was doing "interventions" in their suburb.00:02:37.033
- 00:02:37.033
- So the way I looked at it I wanted to influence people living around me.00:02:48.939
- 00:02:48.939
- I no longer have those ideals, the gallery being one reason for losing them.00:02:57.786
- 00:02:57.786
- I basically approached only people I knew, or my friends.00:03:11.730
- 00:03:11.730
- At first somebody would always come to the venissage and arrange with me00:03:17.305
- 00:03:17.305
- to exhibit at the next one, then there were people from around me00:03:22.970
- 00:03:22.970
- or those whom I had randomly met when I needed to do another exhibition.00:03:28.306
- 00:03:28.306
- About a year ago we had agreed with Blanka Švédová to start00:03:39.091
- 00:03:39.091
- having more of a plan and she would also recommend some new people to me.00:03:44.499
- 00:03:44.499
- The exhibition space consists of those two small display windows.00:03:59.570
- 00:03:59.570
- We had a couple of projects when someone would put something outside of the window.00:04:05.497
- 00:04:05.497
- But then there is a risk of it being either stolen or destroyed00:04:10.581
- 00:04:10.581
- so some people prefer it to be locked in the window.00:04:14.449
- 00:04:14.449
- At the current exhibition Pavla Kantorová wanted to put canvases in frames there00:04:20.459
- 00:04:20.459
- so we took a long time measuring it all so that it would fit in there00:04:25.633
- 00:04:25.633
- but in the end it didn't and she had to install only the canvases.00:04:30.210
- 00:04:30.210
- For three consecutive years we have been doing a summer event00:04:42.210
- 00:04:42.210
- when we accompany the vernissage with some happening in the courtyard,00:04:47.801
- 00:04:47.801
- with some bands playing, or, for instance, last year we had a "pirate radio" concept00:04:52.586
- 00:04:52.586
- when we broadcasted pirate radio from the garage to the whole block.00:04:58.019
- 00:04:58.019
- So I like the whole "amphitheatrical" dimension to it00:05:12.410
- 00:05:12.410
- when people can see from their balconies what is going on here00:05:18.562
- 00:05:18.562
- and also listen to the concerts from their flats.00:05:23.098
- 00:05:23.098
- And, most of all, they can come, it is open to all the people from around here.00:05:31.194
- 00:05:31.194
- So I like the people here being not only from the art scene but also from the neighbourhood.00:05:38.562
- 00:05:38.562
- One of my first projects was to partly give up the opportunity to hold events here00:05:52.252
- 00:05:52.252
- in return for becoming the president of our house cooperative.00:05:57.701
- 00:05:57.701
- So we had to deal with our facade full of graffiti tags00:06:04.413
- 00:06:04.413
- and my neighbours wanted to paint it over with yellow which I thought00:06:09.557
- 00:06:09.557
- would be a waste of money as it would soon be covered in tags again.00:06:14.587
- 00:06:14.587
- So I had thought of doing something that would hide it,00:06:19.749
- 00:06:19.749
- some kind of a graffiti project, because I had thought naively00:06:25.301
- 00:06:25.301
- that graffiti artists wouldn't tag over each other's works.00:06:30.604
- 00:06:30.604
- In the end we had chosen Tomáš Vaňek, an "old" graffiti artist,00:07:04.613
- 00:07:04.613
- who came up with this brilliant idea where it can00:07:10.492
- 00:07:10.492
- be sprayed over at any time which also works well with the other tags00:07:16.716
- 00:07:16.716
- and artists can compete with each other there.00:07:22.309
- 00:07:22.309
- This has met with a great success from the locals.00:07:37.548
- 00:07:37.548
- Everyone was saying how great it was and that they wanted it on their buildings too.00:07:44.100
- 00:07:44.100
- I have got to the point when I thought it has become too much of a routine and00:08:03.721
- 00:08:03.721
- perhaps I should end it but the thing is that it doesn't00:08:10.147
- 00:08:10.147
- require so much work so maybe it would be a pity to give it up.00:08:15.781
- 00:08:15.781
- And there are still many artists who haven't exhibited here00:08:21.885
- 00:08:21.885
- and perhaps would like to so I have decided to keep it going00:08:27.549
- 00:08:27.549
- at least while I continue to live in this building.00:08:34.061
