Showroom
Výsledná konstelace mimo jiné reviduje fundamentální rozlišení na volné a užité umění a spíše podporuje určité příbuznosti v přemýšlení a pracovních postupech designera a volně tvořícího umělce. Produkty jejich práce vytrhává z jejich běžného kontextu nahlížení, čímž je činí částečně nefunkčními.
David Krňanský a Martin Nytra
- The exhibition is called Showroom and the conception or basic idea stems from the space arrangement of the gallery.00:00:16.843
- 00:00:16.843
- When I first saw the gallery, I thought it could be a good space for a shop,00:00:26.437
- 00:00:26.437
- of course it is a typical gallery space but the layout of the space reminded me of a showroom.00:00:33.233
- 00:00:33.233
- So I knew immediately how I would deal with the space00:00:41.012
- 00:00:41.012
- but, of course, in the end I kept changing the things that are displayed here,00:00:44.687
- 00:00:44.687
- I changed the scheme of the exhibition several times,00:00:50.067
- 00:00:50.067
- the first version was supposed to be more architectural,00:00:54.613
- 00:00:54.613
- I intended to place some kind of architecture here corresponding to a showroom or shop,00:00:58.610
- 00:00:58.610
- but then I abandoned this idea and decided that other things will represent my work well enough.00:01:06.581
- 00:01:06.581
- All that remained from the original idea was the title, which was important,00:01:15.912
- 00:01:15.912
- because it refers to an actual space.00:01:19.813
- 00:01:19.813
- Another important thing was that I decided to ask Monika to take part,00:01:24.222
- 00:01:24.222
- because one of the conditions is to invite another artist.00:01:31.695
- 00:01:31.695
- In the beginning I wanted to invite a designer00:01:34.289
- 00:01:34.289
- and finally I was glad that I asked her because her work is significant in the world of fashion design.00:01:39.713
- 00:01:39.713
- I find her work interesting and wanted to set one of her existing works apart, out of the context00:01:46.804
- 00:01:46.804
- of fashion design and display it in the gallery.00:01:57.378
- 00:01:57.378
- I wanted the things to somehow blend together.00:02:01.255
- 00:02:01.255
- This idea resulted in Monika making a completely new piece,00:02:03.827
- 00:02:03.827
- in a way she responded to my work, because I started before her,00:02:10.304
- 00:02:10.304
- so the shirt that is hanging here sort of expanded my idea, that is present in my paintings.00:02:16.123
- 00:02:16.123
- They deal with a kind of multiplicity and treatment of form or batch production.00:02:23.962
- 00:02:23.962
- The paintings displayed here are almost monochrome,00:02:32.444
- 00:02:32.444
- the technique I used is quite important,00:02:37.509
- 00:02:37.509
- I used spraying, manual, mechanical spraying, which takes a long time,00:02:40.677
- 00:02:40.677
- and in fact it simulates a kind of machine printing process or so.00:02:49.479
- 00:02:49.479
- All of them are the same, so one feels they have become a kind of product.00:02:55.061
- 00:02:55.061
- The shirt is based on a similar principle, because the shirt consists of all the sizes of ready-made clothes00:03:02.521
- 00:03:02.521
- available on the market and they form a whole.00:03:11.998
- 00:03:11.998
- So this is the way the things somehow blend together,00:03:16.891
- 00:03:16.891
- Another important piece of work is over there.00:03:19.385
- 00:03:19.385
- Those plastic bags with a printed text about this exhibition which explains everything.00:03:23.254
- 00:03:23.254
- The text was written by Martin Nytra and me and it is a sort of guide to the exhibition.00:03:31.189
