ART TO DATE
Název výstavy představuje těžko přeložitelnou slovní hříčku, která na jedné straně evokuje známou knihu Edwarda Lucie-Smithe Art Today, ale zároveň znamená cosi jako „umění pro rande“. Název jakoby naznačoval, že se jedná o umění, se kterým lze „chodit“.
Tento význam je zároveň klíčem k výběru účastníků; jsou jimi umělecké dvojice, tedy umělci a umělkyně, jejichž protějšky se rovněž zabývají uměním. Zatímco někteří pracují společně, jiní se využívají v roli „objektu“, což je případ fotografií Jiřího Thýna ze série Best Before (2004–09) nebo slideshow Jitky Mikulicové a Ondřeje Brodyho Making of Hitler (2009). Z metaforické analýzy vztahu vychází dílo Pavly Scerankové a Dušana Zahoranského Karavan Lásky (2009), evokující situaci partnerské houpačky. Dusivou atmosféru naopak ztělesňuje dvojice objektů Kateřiny Fojtíkové a Richarda Wiesnera Alexej a Irina (2009), vypouštějící v pravidelných intervalech vtíravou vůni. Většina autorů pracovala s autobiografickými motivy, které jsou však místy čitelné pouze pro zasvěcené. Sonja Divo-Vectomov a Mark Divo prezentují video nazvané Tanec malých labutí (2009) s jejich buldočkem v hlavní roli, Adéla Svobodová a Jiří Thýn vytvořili pro výstavu knihu nazvanou Proměny karate (2009), kombinující jejich dva oblíbené tituly. Zcela zjevně autobiografické je naopak dílo Tamary Moyzes a Shloma Yaffeho, jejichž video vychází z přepisu protokolu z jejich výslechu na cizinecké policii. Mnohá díla tedy řeší i celou řadu otázek, které zdaleka nemusí být ryze osobní. Na tento aspekt reaguje také dílo Konfese č. 2, dokumentující dosud nepřiznaný podíl Jespera Alvaera na dílech Isabely Grosseové.
Otázek, které s tématem souvisejí, je pochopitelně více: Jak partnerství ovlivňuje uměleckou práci a jaký vliv má tato páce na každodenní život? Má toto tvůrčí soužití podobu konkurence nebo harmonické koexistence? Jakou roli hraje v těchto vztazích profesní úspěch? Je vzájemná spolupráce impulzem, který pomáhá rozvíjet tvorbu obou partnerů a vytváří cosi, co transcenduje individualistický princip umělecké tvorby? Díla prezentovaná na výstavě řeší téma vztahu mezi partnery ve všedním životě, v rámci společnosti i v kontextu uměleckého provozu a pokoušejí se zmapovat situaci, kdy spolu umělci nejen chodí, ale i tvoří.
