Doc. JUDr. ROBERT FICO, CSc.
Na mieste deinštalovanej busty Františka Zupku (1988) pred budovou Domu odborov na Trnavskom mýte v Bratislave prezentovala artová galéria Verejný podstavec prvý projekt Doc. JUDr.
- The project was initiated00:00:23.428
- 00:00:23.428
- by the Public Pedestal civic association.00:00:25.928
- 00:00:25.928
- We started this type of activities in 2006.00:00:29.220
- 00:00:29.220
- We started to think00:00:33.012
- 00:00:33.012
- about the role of sculptures in the city.00:00:35.512
- 00:00:35.512
- Many of the activities00:00:39.122
- 00:00:39.122
- involved questionnaires or lectures.00:00:41.622
- 00:00:41.622
- We felt that we needed our own space00:00:44.992
- 00:00:44.992
- for presenting our vision of art exhibitions.00:00:48.480
- 00:00:48.480
- That's why we contacted the JMF00:00:53.094
- 00:00:53.094
- and obtained this memorial.00:00:55.922
- 00:00:55.922
- The first exhibition was mine.00:00:58.601
- 00:00:58.601
- The choice of the person to display00:01:01.634
- 00:01:01.634
- was inspired by the installation00:01:06.127
- 00:01:06.127
- of the statue of Štefánik.00:01:09.231
- 00:01:09.231
- I started working with this theme00:01:13.206
- 00:01:13.206
- 00:01:15.981
- 00:01:15.981
- 00:01:15.981
- when the political situation was changing.00:01:18.048
- 00:01:18.048
- I thought about moving sculptures00:01:21.634
- 00:01:21.634
- around the checkerboard of the city.00:01:24.400
- 00:01:24.400
- That was the starting point of this project.00:01:27.207
- 00:01:27.207
- I decided to portray Fico00:01:30.998
- 00:01:30.998
- as he's at the top of the political pyramid.00:01:33.631
- 00:01:33.631
- I wanted to put Fico00:01:37.338
- 00:01:37.338
- in the position of a hostage,00:01:39.625
- 00:01:39.625
- just like he does with the others.00:01:42.245
- 00:01:42.245
- Our plan was to install the sculpture00:01:52.474
- 00:01:52.474
- and wait 3 days00:01:56.751
- 00:01:56.751
- before publishing a press release00:01:59.251
- 00:01:59.251
- about the project and the authors.00:02:02.060
- 00:02:02.060
- However, there were some unexpected events00:02:05.455
- 00:02:05.455
- that happened way too fast.00:02:08.872
- 00:02:08.872
- On Sunday, we were asked00:02:11.634
- 00:02:11.634
- to remove the sculpture00:02:14.134
- 00:02:14.134
- because it was "inappropriate".00:02:16.686
- 00:02:16.686
- We didn't obey00:02:19.470
- 00:02:19.470
- and the next morning,00:02:22.386
- 00:02:22.386
- the sculpture was removed by the JMF.00:02:24.540
- 00:02:24.540
- Or so I heard from the police.00:02:28.463
- 00:02:28.463
- No, you can't go in.00:02:35.884
- 00:02:35.884
- This is one of the few ideal locations00:02:49.555
- 00:02:49.555
- for this type of project.00:02:53.044
- 00:02:53.044
- In Bratislava, there's a similar space00:02:56.052
- 00:02:56.052
- where the statue of Gottwald used to be.00:02:59.552
- 00:02:59.552
- It is an interesting connection00:03:03.357
- 00:03:03.357
- between the past and the present.00:03:06.357
- 00:03:06.357
- It's a pity we lost this one.00:03:09.050
- 00:03:09.050
- We need to look for new options,00:03:11.966
- 00:03:11.966
- for new ways of reading.00:03:15.359
- 00:03:15.359
- People are used to reading commemorative plaques00:03:17.859
- 00:03:17.859
- that someone gives them to read00:03:21.716
- 00:03:21.716
- and all they can do is read and shut up,00:03:24.841
- 00:03:24.841
- just survive the whole thing.00:03:28.341
- 00:03:28.341
- It's a good thing that there were reactions00:03:31.006
- 00:03:31.006
- to what we did00:03:34.921
- 00:03:34.921
- because it's not easy to pick a statue00:03:37.237
- 00:03:37.237
- and install it, without any discussion.00:03:40.737
- 00:03:40.737
- People need to learn to read00:03:45.488
- 00:03:45.488
- and to become more open to other options,00:03:48.541
- 00:03:48.541
- such as the work we did here.00:03:52.342
