LOVE BOOK / EMERGENCY EXITS
- The exhibition consists of objects and video performances.00:00:11.060
- 00:00:11.060
- Objects are less numerous00:00:16.969
- 00:00:16.969
- but they appear in most of the videos.00:00:19.969
- 00:00:19.969
- My purpose is to use objects00:00:24.545
- 00:00:24.545
- and follow what I call their "emancipation processes".00:00:28.037
- 00:00:28.037
- It means that the objects leave their usual routine00:00:33.729
- 00:00:33.729
- and a person uses them as technologies of their own.00:00:39.112
- 00:00:39.112
- The term comes from Foucault.00:00:49.329
- 00:00:49.329
- It denotes strategies we use to achieve personal quality,00:00:52.791
- 00:00:52.791
- or at least that's how I interpret it.00:00:58.363
- 00:00:58.363
- The video performances may seem banal00:01:02.270
- 00:01:02.270
- but some of them required certain skills00:01:07.371
- 00:01:07.371
- that needed to be developed,00:01:12.871
- 00:01:12.871
- such as the video with the flag bearer.00:01:16.426
- 00:01:16.426
- It was shot at the unused Artmedia stadium00:01:22.018
- 00:01:22.018
- and it shows a man practising flag movements.00:01:27.518
- 00:01:27.518
- This is my recurring theme00:01:32.027
- 00:01:32.027
- as it reminds me of my childhood days,00:01:35.503
- 00:01:35.503
- of a boy from my neighborhood who was a flag bearer00:01:40.245
- 00:01:40.245
- and was presented to us as a role model.00:01:45.745
- 00:01:45.745
- He was a good student and everyone admired him.00:01:49.731
- 00:01:49.731
- Shortly after the fall of communism00:01:54.809
- 00:01:54.809
- I saw him in skinhead clothes.00:01:58.977
- 00:01:58.977
- It's an example of a rapid, dramatic change00:02:02.570
- 00:02:02.570
- in the behavior of a person who leaves a certain grid,00:02:06.070
- 00:02:06.070
- starts to oscillate like an atom,00:02:11.639
- 00:02:11.639
- and creates something original and bizarre.00:02:15.139
- 00:02:15.139
- Besides the videos with the communist theme00:02:19.663
- 00:02:19.663
- there are also videos that show the use of make-up00:02:24.642
- 00:02:24.642
- to model objects. A car interior, for instance.00:02:30.142
- 00:02:30.142
- This work is connected with my earlier performance00:02:35.954
- 00:02:35.954
- called "The Crash Test".00:02:41.157
- 00:02:41.157
- In another video nail polish is used.00:02:44.657
- 00:02:44.657
- The nail polish is processed by a nail designer00:02:49.229
- 00:02:49.229
- who won the second place at an international competition.00:02:54.795
- 00:02:54.795
- In the video she puts nail polish on a cow horn.00:03:00.793
- 00:03:00.793
- I'm fascinated by the act00:03:09.599
- 00:03:09.599
- of organizing one's artistic efforts and even one's life00:03:14.733
- 00:03:14.733
- into a more homogenous form.00:03:20.421
- 00:03:20.421
- This is why I'm looking for a way to make performances00:03:24.484
- 00:03:24.484
- and use them to create a larger narrative.00:03:30.183
- 00:03:30.183
- Not only this video shows a woman modelling a car interior,00:03:35.063
- 00:03:35.063
- but in addition my thesis involved a performance00:03:40.995
- 00:03:40.995
- during which I participated in a crash test00:03:46.036
- 00:03:46.036
- in a paper model of a car crashing into a real car.00:03:50.304
- 00:03:50.304
- So the connection is obvious and logical for me.00:03:56.071
- 00:03:56.071
- The question was if my performances were planned.00:04:01.241
- 00:04:01.241
- The truth is that I always have a plan00:04:06.741
- 00:04:06.741
- but I try to keep it open.00:04:10.241
- 00:04:10.241
- What I focus on are the turning points.00:04:13.932
- 00:04:13.932
- I try to think about which part of the video00:04:18.676
- 00:04:18.676
- might direct the performance towards a different narrative.00:04:22.788
