Avdei Ter-Oganian was born in Rostov-on-Don in 1961. From 1980-1990 he was a member and organizer of the independent arts collective that became known as „Art or Death!“ In the years 1991-1993 he served as curator at the Gallery on Trekhprudny Lane in Moscow. Since 1993 he has been the creative author of the Gallery project „Вперёд! / Forward!“, and since 1995 also of the project School of the Avant-Garde. Due to political persecution in Russia for his artistic activities, he emigrated to the Czech Republic in 1999. Since then he has been based in Prague.
Inspired by the spirit of Russian Futurism and the whole of French painting, Avdei Ter-Oganian’s work plays with the logic of the avant-garde and its devices in our present post-Communist reality.
The present exhibition is Avdei Ter-Oganian’s first retrospective to be held in the Czech Republic.
