The island of stability
the title of the show of ján gašparovič and jaroslav kyša has been borrowed from mendeleev periodic table. isotopes of superheavy radioactive elements from the island of stability are by theory predicted to have the greater longevity than their neighbours from “the see of instability”. the island of stability in the periodical table has become a metaphor for subjective exploration of a dyad stability – instability in art practices of the two artists. what is stability and instability in personal, social and political life and what is their relationship to strict scientific perception.

- The exhibition The Island of Stability is an exhibition of two young artists from Žilina - Ján Gašparovic and Jaroslav Kyša.00:00:00.000
- 00:00:00.000
- Jano Gašparovic works with things related to science, with chemical compounds, elements and acids.00:00:12.956
- 00:00:12.956
- But in this case he kept only the title coming from science, which is also metaphorical.00:00:27.585
- 00:00:27.585
- He presents four works together with Jaro, all of them are somehow dealing with stability,00:00:38.054
- 00:00:38.054
- but it is on the edge, all the four works are very distinctive and independent,00:00:43.706
- 00:00:43.706
- and what is good about the exhibition is the way they are brought into accord.00:00:52.861
- 00:00:52.861
- Jano´s work titled Shelter as a place you can hide he walls are painted with special paints,00:00:57.001
- 00:00:57.001
- with Electro Shield - it shades any electromagnetic radiation, so there are no mobile and radio signals,00:01:11.135
- 00:01:11.135
- so there is a space of stability in communication as we live in era of wifi and network.00:01:22.296
- 00:01:22.296
- The work of Jaro Kyša Almost Fallen is a contrast to previous work of stability.00:01:44.288
- 00:01:44.288
- It an obvious lability, something constantly falling, he makes the mechanism aesthetic.00:01:50.130
- 00:01:50.130
- Jaro works with gallery object as an aesthetic object, but we worry about it as it is going to fall.00:02:10.878
- 00:02:10.878
- It is also about searching for the stability in another room, Jano creates an environment00:02:23.027
- 00:02:23.027
- in which he eliminates the communication on the level of sound by installing white noise.00:02:33.315
- 00:02:33.315
- 00:02:33.315
- There is a series of piezo transformers installed on the wall creating white noise.00:02:49.081
- 00:02:49.081
- To certain extend it is a paranoid installation as this system was used on KGB interrogations,00:02:54.941
- 00:02:54.941
- or it is being used by politicians.00:03:33.674
- 00:03:33.674
- Jaro Kyša completed this exhibition with his installation Pondering - it is a beaten circle00:03:40.263
- 00:03:40.263
- or some imprinted steps of a man or an animal going in circles - I mention also an animal00:03:52.471
- 00:03:52.471
- because it comes into one´s mind as it reminds the conditions of animals living in the zoo.00:04:05.201
- 00:04:05.201
- The installation expresses the hopelessness, somebody going in the circles to that extend00:04:19.965
- 00:04:19.965
- to leave a track on the floor.00:04:25.650
- 00:04:25.650
- It is an imprint left in loneliness and despair, on one side there is a dialogue held inside,00:04:28.599
- 00:04:28.599
- on other side it seems there is one lonely and desperate man with inner monologue,00:04:37.495
- 00:04:37.495
- 00:04:37.495
- as if there was a freak going around in circles.00:04:47.363
- 00:04:47.363
- It represents the space of nervousness, paranoia, any mental deviation in both cases but in different ways.00:04:51.852
