Poetic materialism is a concept taken from literary studies. It defines a line of poetry (since Whitman) for its diversion from its romanticizing embedding in the idealist space. It’s also a fusion of literary studies and philosophy. The eponymous exhibition deals with conceptualization of a wide tendency of interest in material expression of things poetic. First and foremost, materialism relates here to its own etymological origin, where matter = mother, that means everything that arose from nature. Poetics is then defined (according to Aristotle) as the production of an artwork. Gérard Genette elevates poetics to a theory of theories.
