Soo Jung Choi’s subject matter is the trivial debris of everyday life. Her method is to meticulously copy her subject before introducing them into her large scale acrylic paintings and collages, stripping them of any definable context in the process.
The exhibition No Man’s Land comprises of three groups of work, firstly the two part, large scale Floccinaucinihilipilification, its net-like compositional structure enticing the viewer into the painting’s labyrinth with a crowd of hundreds of small, colourful motifs.
Treasure Island is also a two part work, complete with pasted-on scraps of cloth, wool and coloured thread, chosen to represent an atlas of the constellations. Alongside these works are four fishing nets, lit to cast their web like shadow over the floor of the exhibition.
