Miroslaw Balka presents the sitespecific project “223 × 4127 × 950” at Karlsruhe’s Staatliche Kunsthalle. The project’s strong political statement compares the past political situation in Poland with the Western context.
In addition, his intervention involving 92 original Renaissance paintings by old German masters looks at the possibilities of seeing and perceiving classical art. Miroslaw Balka (b. 1958) is one of the most notable Eastern European artists today. He has exhibited at numerous eminent venues, including a 2009 solo show at the Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall (“How It Is”). Balka lives and works in Warsaw and Otwock.
