THE BELL 2010 YOUNG ART BIENNIAL
The seventh Czech Young Art Biennial presents work from twenty promising young artists, five of whom were born in Slovakia, but now live and work in the Czech Republic. Curated by Tomáš Pospiszyl, the show takes place in Prague’s City Gallery in the Old Town Square.
The aim of the Biennial is to introduce the general public to works by a select group of promising artists active on the present-day scene, with an emphasis on exhibiting a wide variety of practices.
Some of the young artists already have a number of major triumphs at home to their name, as well as internationally, and are widely regarded as promising representatives of contemporary Czech art.

- 00:00:22.466
- Its purpose is to show a wide variety00:00:25.174
- 00:00:25.174
- of artistic approaches00:00:28.174
- 00:00:28.174
- from the youngest generation.00:00:30.509
- 00:00:30.509
- The word "young" can be misleading,00:00:33.347
- 00:00:33.347
- or quite complicated at the very least.00:00:37.768
- 00:00:37.768
- In simple words, I focused on artists00:00:41.083
- 00:00:41.083
- from 25 to 30 years old,00:00:44.583
- 00:00:44.583
- with a few exceptions in both directions,00:00:48.802
- 00:00:48.802
- namely on the group of artists00:00:52.647

- 00:00:55.499
- at the last two Biennales.00:00:58.335
- 00:00:58.335
- I also wanted to explore areas00:01:01.922
- 00:01:01.922
- that are often neglected00:01:05.715
- 00:01:05.715
- in visual arts,00:01:08.600
- 00:01:08.600
- such as film, comics, music videos,00:01:12.434
- 00:01:12.434
- illustrations or street art.00:01:16.603
- 00:01:16.603
- We have here many artists from the FAMU.00:01:31.591
- 00:01:31.591
- Well, not that many, they are 5 out of 20.00:01:36.005
- 00:01:36.005
- Their presence is due to the fact00:01:40.430
- 00:01:40.430
- that I'm a teacher at the FAMU00:01:43.614
- 00:01:43.614
- so I know them and their works in person,00:01:46.114
- 00:01:46.114
- but it is also a reflection00:01:51.218
- 00:01:51.218
- of the current situation of visual art00:01:54.969
- 00:01:54.969
- that is strongly oriented on technical aspects.00:01:58.898
- 00:01:58.898
- Today's visual art00:02:03.277
- 00:02:03.277
- is not about stone sculptures00:02:05.121
- 00:02:05.121
- or about painting00:02:09.183
- 00:02:09.183
- but rather about digital technologies,00:02:11.735
- 00:02:11.735
- working with the image, with photographs.00:02:16.951
- 00:02:16.951
- The Biennale also presents authors00:02:43.924
- 00:02:43.924
- who have never exhibited their works00:02:47.128
- 00:02:47.128
- or have very little experience00:02:50.268
- 00:02:50.268
- with this kind of exhibitions and galleries.00:02:53.715
- 00:02:53.715
- This was a bit of a risk,00:02:59.209
- 00:02:59.209
- we didn't know how they would cope.00:03:02.423
- 00:03:02.423
- But everyone did really great,00:03:05.918
- 00:03:05.918
- although this might have been00:03:08.487
- 00:03:08.487
- an entirely new situation for them.00:03:12.004
- 00:03:12.004
- I'd like to mention Toy Box,00:03:16.563
- 00:03:16.563
- an author working with street art and comics.00:03:19.762
- 00:03:19.762
- It's difficult to exhibit such works00:03:24.245
- 00:03:24.245
- in a gallery.00:03:27.582
- 00:03:27.582
- But she created a special comic series00:03:29.987
- 00:03:29.987
- painted on the walls00:03:34.140
- 00:03:34.140
- and on the floor of the gallery,00:03:38.165
- 00:03:38.165
- which was a laborious task00:03:41.152
- 00:03:41.152
- that took about 10 days to finish.00:03:44.181
- 00:03:44.181
- She also worked really hard00:03:46.735
- 00:03:46.735
- on adjusting the composition00:03:50.346
- 00:03:50.346
