BORIS ŠRIBAR: THE MALE THING

The Male Thing is a series of photographs by Boris Sribar, pictured through a new paradigm of masculinity – without masculinity. Sribar both depraves and negates the stereotypical macho discourse, where power usually means active money and an even more active penis.

In this case, the male ‘tool’ is stripped of its identity, hidden, invisible; it is equalized with female genitalia. This asexual castration makes Sribar’s Homo erectus even more engaging and political, as it is clearly connotative towards gender equality.

The second part of the exhibition includes a conceptual supermarket, complete with sweets shaped in a mould of the author’s penis. This well planned audience assault requires a necessary touch of brave exhibitionism, a wonderful test for homophobes, mediocrities and snobs!
