Julita Wójcik’s work mixes standard household activities with artistic performance. She takes everyday tasks that conservative society automatically assigns to women and plays with them in poetic and provocative episodes.
In previous works, Wójcik has peeled potatoes (Zachęta National Gallery of Art, 2001) or swept the floor of a textile factory (2003). For MeetFactory’s Cube Gallery, she has created a set of objects.
Wójcik’s functional lampshades, which take the form of contemporary Polish sacral architecture, straddle the line between modern kitsch and traditional folk art. At the same time, they both block and channel the light coming through the heavy lidded shades.
