Cäcilia Brown is an artist now based in Vienna. Her work deals with structures and hierarchies of public space. She has chosen the medium of sculpture, which has its own structures and hierarchies, some of which are rather profane – weight, volume, colour, dirt...
She welds and casts concrete, steel, plaster or clay into objects that resemble elements of public space: trash cans, fences, gates, walls, weights... Her methods include destructive acts such as burning or throwing something out of a window, as well as copying and archiving. Despite the materials that formally characterize Cäcilie Brown's work, her works have a fleeting, ephemeral character and very often contain found or collected elements.
The lecture took place on 22 April 2024 at the Academy of Fine Arts and was organised by the Sculpture 1 studio.
