Chocolate box art once literally referred to the designs found on chocolate boxes and biscuit tins. Over the years ‘chocolate box’ has become a somewhat pejorative byword for art that is overly picturesque, warm, idealistic or sentimental.

In the case of Jaroslava Kadlecová and Klára Vystrčilová, two first-year students at the Academy of Fine Art in Prague, the description is very accurate. This remains the case despite attempts at abstraction or ‘purity’.
