SKREPL VLADIMÍR: JOY IS SEDUCTIVE

Vladimir Skrepl was born in 1955 in Jihlava, then part of Czechoslovakia. After studying art history he embarked on an autonomous artistic path. Since 1994 he has been a professor of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.

Skrepl is one of the most important Czech artists since the eighties. With his progressive and provocative works he breaks aesthetic standards. The viewer can trace the procedural and gestural aspects of his paintings, which combine to make Skrepl a singular artistic personality of our time.

The visual universe of the artist deals with the deepest longings of separated people. He is preoccupied with “changes of people, subconscious sexuality, faith, deformation, something between men and women, animals and landscape, decor and sense”.
