For The Brick Lane Gallery’s director Tony context is everything. The ongoing Art in Mind project continues the gallery’s theme of blurring boundaries by showing a regularly changing mix of urban, street and emerging contemporary fine artists.

Some juxtapositions are more successful than others, but any attempt to create a unified narrative about all the artists on show here is probably misguided. The appeal is a consciously pan-European approach that reflects the diversity and internationalism of current street and contemporary art practice.

The relationship between democratic, public street art and a gallery showing that art is unavoidably an uneasy one. That said, a gallery should make you think – about art, about context, about the junction between life and art practice.
