Katarina Šević (1979, Novi Sad, Serbia) is an artist based in Budapest. In her work she utilizes and integrates diverse strategies of observation and communication, questioning the realms of design, behavioral patterns in society.
Her practice includes performance, video, objects and publication projects. With her selection of materials, forms and topics she examines the validity of the utopias, symbols and everyday objects from the middle European history. She has exhibited internationally (Trafo Gallery, Budapest; Kunstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin; Apexart, New York; Škuc Gallery, Ljubljana; Salon of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Belgrade; CIC, Cairo; Secession, Vienna; Futura, Prague; Kunsthalle Budapest…). Besides exhibition practice she has been active in diverse collaborative projects. She initiated and co-founded independent art spaces Dinamo and Impex. She also co- edited and published publications, such as ‘We are not ducks on a pond, but ships at sea; independent art initiatives, Budapest 1989-2009’, ‘Die Planung / A terv’ and ‘In-between Zones’.
