Tender Cinema

Tender Cinema is an introductory collective exhibition and at the same time a year plan of five individual exhibitions of contemporary art. Both galleries and cinemas can be regarded as meaningful and spatial mimicry of two systems penetrating each other. The cinema phenomenon is being literally or just symbolically worked with as an interpretation framework. The tenderness refers to the time limits (the beginning and the end of the year course of exhibitions). It applies to an interference into a „non-variability“ of space in a well-established gallery. An ordinary run divided into individual exhibitions is „disrupted“ by opening comunication between the artists within the bounds of the introductory collective exhibition.

Tender Cinema
In February 2019, documenta 15 issued a press release announcing the names of the artistic directors for the next edition of the world’s largest exhibition of art. The announcement included two historical firsts: The exhibition will not be organized by an individual as in the past, but by a collective (and, what is more, an artists’ collective), and this will be the first time since the exhibition’s founding in 1955 that it will be curated by representatives of the Asian continent.
