The lecture presents the last duo of the cycle Dialogue – the Dutch architect Kamiel Klaasse together with the Czech promoter of architecture Adam Gebrian.

Kamiel Klaasse | NL

Graduated from TU Delft in 1995 and two years later founded NL Architects together with Walter van Dijk, Pieter Bannenberg and Mark Linnemann. They drew attention to themselves with the student project of the Carstadt house, which fulfills urban life and the function of parking. Today, the atelier has an international composition, counts around 25 members and enjoys the reputation of one of the most innovative offices. Projects from the NL workshop humorously and at the same time sensitively solve the problems not only of architecture itself, but also of urban life, housing and the unusual use of energy sources. Studio NL Architects received numerous awards for their projects. In 2017 they won the prestigious European Mies van der Rohe Awards for the renovation of The Kleiburg apartment building near Amsterdam. Well-known projects include the Basketbar in Utrecht, the multi-functional centers Forum Groningen and Crossoverzaal, the school campus De Vonk in Belgium or the Club House Varkenoord in Rotterdam.

Adam Gebrian | CZ

Studied architecture at the TUL in Liberec and the SCIFI postgraduate program at SCI-Arc in Los Angeles, drawing experience from a number of European capitals. Instead of architectural practice, he began to devote himself to the education and promotion of architecture among the general public, as well as theoretical and critical work. In 2015, he received the Czech award Architect of the Year. His media activity includes professional articles, publications, as well as popular radio and television shows. He has written three books from his stays in Barcelona, Lisbon and the USA, which convey to readers his experiences and impressions of known and unknown places, sharing with them the ability to look and observe.

The colony in Ostrava called Bedřiška has belonged among the so-called socially excluded localities for a long time. However, Bedřiška does not show any features that most probably come to your mind when we speak about excluded localities. The people are happy to live there, they regard the place as their home and they try to keep their houses as well as public spaces in good order and tidy.
American curator Bojana Coklyat describes her own experience with approach to people with disabilities in the Czech Republic.
