VIDEOS 1999–2004

The Norwegian artist Jesper Alvaer (1973), who studied at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts between 1997 and 2004, has noticeably influenced the Czech art platform mainly by his work reflecting cultural operation and relationships amongst communities.

His videos in a compilation from 1999-2004 make up a compact unit following alike motifs and themes. The short films show everyday reality which the author designs or just simply records. They are related by matching the camera eye, a game in which a simple slit through the objective creates a new autonomous event. Some of the videos were a part of his solo exhibition Installation in the Malá Špálovka Gallery in 2002.

Videos in the compilation: Birds, Oranges, Draw a Line and Follow, Bus Stop, Plastic Bag, Stripes, Reflex, Clouds, Gravity, Kritik der Urteilskraft, Singing and Dancing in the Park.
In the Window to the Archive programme the AVU Research Center in Prague (VVP AVU) in conjunction with Artyčok.tv is regularly releasing works from theVVP AVU video archive. The selection for Artyčok.tv focuses on older works (materials from the end of the 20th century), works bordering on video art, film and documentation, or on purely documentary materials related to the recent development of Czech and Slovak visual art.

VIDEOS 1999–2004
The structure of the Tamagotchi video is based on the alternation of simple animations and texts. The animations remind us of early video games or simple computer games. For the texts he used the Chicago typeface which was designed for Apple Computer and was used between 1984 and 1997 in the operating system user interface. Unlike the main stream of Czech video making in the mid- 1990s, mostly based on performative elements or artistic unusualness, Mašín´s approach is radically different not only in terms of aesthetics but also conception.
