By actively thematizing creative technological processes, Prokop’s work also intentionally problematizes his own authorial position as the sole producer of the artistic content/work.
Most people imagine academic work as a slow march up the steep steps of the Ivory Tower. It has its clear hierarchies, formal organization, its rules both written and unwritten. It requires diligence, distance and conscientious work. All that is often true and at times necessary. Therefore, not many people think that theory would be riveting or exciting. But the work of Kateřina Svatoňová shows us that theory is, first and foremost, an adventure.
The international exhibition Beyond the Sound presents a contemporary approach to the specific and lively artistic field of sound art. Sound is presented not as an independent aesthetic form, but as a medium used to explore and reveal phenomena that are often unrecognisable to the eye.
The drone integrates functions of a vehicle intended for destruction, razing urban communities and assassinating from the air, with those of a reconnaissance and artifactual tool which has resurrected interest in contaminated and exclusion zones inaccessible or dangerous for human intervention. Furthermore, it has exhibited its potential as a habitat builder, and proved its capabilities for land and real estate surveying, gathering data and visuals that are amenable for market-end purposes.
