Roman Štětina is a distinctive young artist who sensitively connects sound and the spoken word in his work, focusing in particular on radio or TV broadcasting. He renders the topic of sound through video, installation, audio-visual intervention and other media. He works with archive materials which he updates and transforms into remarkable handicraft pieces of work full of intelligent humour, imagination and ideas. Štětina was the winner of the ESSL Award in 2011 and the finalist of the Jindřich Chalupecký Award in 2014.

In the series of thirteen audio-interviews recorded during the autumn 2013 Johana Švarcová spoke to artists who use in different ways „the non-visual element“ – sound. For some of the artists that she addressed, working with sound, sound art, development of instruments (hardware and software), radio art or sound installations have become their major field of interest. Other artists deal with sound or sound track (e.g. video) in their own specific ways.
