Václav Janoščík(*1985) studied philosophy and historical sciences at the Faculty of Philosophy of Charles University and law at the Faculty of Law of Charles University. He completed his doctoral studies at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague in 2014 and wrote his dissertation on the theme Turn to the Subject, Problem of Art between the Modern and Poststructuralism. He focuses on contemporary theory and philosophy of art and lectures at leading Czech academies and universities (e.g. AVU, UMPRUM, FAMU, FF UK). Since autumn 2016 he has been the head of the studio for foreign students Visual Arts at UMPRUM.
Janoščík focuses in his projects and exhibitions on topical phenomena of our time. One of his last group exhibitions took place in the gallery Hraničář in Ústí nad Labem and dealt with fast-fashion and related environmental and social aspects (Dům módy, 2016). However, his key theme is the transformation of the role of the subject and return to the object as something which reflects in our everyday relations with the surrounding world and society. In 2015 he prepared an exhibition in the gallery Kvalitář entitled The Disorder of Things and Return of the Object and published an anthology called Object which introduced the Czech readership with topical theoretical texts dealing with accelerationism, speculative realism and object-oriented ontology. The exhibition was followed by a conference in March 2016, which under the title Reinventing Horizons aimed at reevaluating the contemporary approach to subjectivity in the context of changing socio-economic conditions. In 2010 he founded Gallery K4 in the basement of the Philosophical Faculty in Celetná street, where he exhibited contemporary art for four years. Besides his work as a teacher and curator he writes texts for Ateliér, Art & Antiques or the cultural fortnightly A2.
