Thermal Insulation

The exhibition Thermal Insulation presents works of Martin Kochan made during his residency in the centre PROGR in Switzerland. The residency was organized by Banská station Contemporary in Banská Štiavnica and association Residency.ch from Bern and supported by Ministery of Culture of Slovak Republic and Stadt Gallery Bern. This serie as well as his spontaneous works hide in itself deeper sense using the day-to-day banality. And it is despite the fact that the author prefers to talk about abstraction. Kochan highlights various problems of his suroundings, on purpose or unconsciously. For instance at work, he supported the protests aimed at imposing the basic income without suspension by his jump into the pile of coins in front of the Swiss parliament. Kochan is a hood, an abstract artist, leftist and activist.

Thermal Insulation
Symposium wants to reflect the current cultural and political situation characterized by the rise of nationalistic politics, populism, Euro-scepticism and anti-immigration attitudes in Central Europe from the perspective of contemporary art and theory. This tendency can be observed not just locally but in the whole of Europe. We will foster an interdisciplinary exchange of ideas discussed in a group of art historians, sociologists, philosophers, and art theoreticians.
