1-800 PLUMBER

"Hello, this is the tenant from apartment 3B. Now you need to listen to me carefully, because I'm really pissed off.

The plumbing work you did here is disastrous - not stupid, not sloppy - just absolutely disastrous. Because of your so-called "repair," my apartment has become a nightmare. I'm talking about colonies of mold sprouting on the floor, walls that look like they're melting, and it smells like a swamp in here.

And it gets worse. Somehow - I can't believe I'm saying this - the mold has gotten so out of control that trees are growing through my walls. Seriously. Literally. Real trees. You didn't fix the pipe. You started a rainforest in my living room.

This is completely unacceptable. I trusted you to do your job, and instead you turned my apartment into a biological experiment. Get back here immediately, immediately, and fix it somehow, because I'm definitely not going to live in a moldy forest because of your incompetence.

Call me. Today. Not tomorrow, not the day after tomorrow - today."

The exhibition project 1-800 PLUMBER by American artist Paul Gondry is based on his feature film Chronicles of Shpongle, which will have its world premiere this December at the PAF Olomouc festival. This expansive exhibition blends elements of counterculture, psychedelia, and dark humour into a distinctive narrative universe that blurs the line between dream and reality.

Paul Gondry is a multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker born in Paris and based in New York. He is actively involved in community projects – having founded several initiatives and participated in others such as the gallery 15 Orient (2016-2020), Eddie Winters, SoftEthix, and Newtonn.io (since 2020). His work has been exhibited in numerous galleries worldwide, including MX Gallery in New York, Deborah Schamoni Gallery in Munich, and Simo Bacar in Lisbon. He is represented by Partizan. Gondry also works as the art director of the video game Charles Manson, Timothy Leary, and the Animals of NIMH by SoftEthix. He is currently completing his feature film The Chronicles of Shpongle, which will premiere at the PAF Olomouc festival. A related exhibition will also be presented at Galerie XY.

1-800 PLUMBER
The concept of the exhibition is based on the ideological convergence of the work of Catherine Radosa and Jaroslav Varga, which consists in revealing the physical and symbolic traces of the past. Both artists examine these relics of bygone times and eras from the perspective of collective memory and the mechanisms of its storage. A vacant lot is an empty space, a gap left by a past situation that can be filled again. The installation Colonne / Révolution captures the constant cycle of the monument in a triple projection. The period of the revolutionary Paris Commune is still a problematic period in France, similar to the period of socialism in our country: it has been and continues to be reinterpreted, tabooed, or marginalized.
