Běla Kolářová

As part of the Minigalerie series, the exhibition presented a collection of eight works by Běla Kolářová (1923–2010) from the collection of the North Bohemian Gallery of Fine Arts in Litoměřice. The works were created in the 1960s, during the artist's most prolific period. In creating them, she used a number of experimental and original techniques that she herself invented. In addition to her unique photographs, which occupy a special place not only in Czech but also in world art, she also created collages and assemblages. The authors of the exhibition interpreted Kolářová's work in the broader context of contemporary art. The exhibition was created as part of the seminar Exhibition as a Medium of Modern Art, led by Tomáš Winter at the Department of Art History, Faculty of Arts, Palacký University in Olomouc.

The objects are metal structures of various shapes woven with yarn, which the artists hand-dyed using different types of tea. They use weaving or scrubbing techniques, which, incidentally, most of us know primarily as half-forgotten craft practices. Their focus corresponds to the increased interest of contemporary artists in materials and technologies such as textiles, ceramics, and glass, which have long been neglected. Julia and Barbora, however, approach textiles without any obvious retro nostalgia, which could be tempting.
