Insitu curatorial collective and Project Space Festival

Insituis a Berlin-based collective consisting of the curators Marie Graftieaux, Nora Mayr, Gilles Neiens and Lauren Reid and was established in Autumn 2012. The name insitu refers to the curatorial team’s understanding of curatorial practice as being necessarily »in situ« in terms of cultural, social and geographic spaces. The collective is interested in experimenting with curatorial formats. Between 2013 and 2017 insitu was running as a project space at Kurfürstenstrasse 21–22, Berlin-Schöneberg, where the collective conceptualized its program in annual Cycles, which provided a thematic focus for the exhibitions and events of the year.
For the inaugural year Cycle I presented 7 episodes that dealt with fundamental questions surrounding the production of art. For Cycle II, insitu focused on the topic of ‘relationships, networks and connections‘, establishing a series of frameworks for invited artists, curators and more to respond to. In Cycle III, the curators developed group exhibitions as fictional characters, providing visitors with an intimate encounter with the character, creating the feeling that one not only just met a new person but entered into their private world. Cycle IV, an ambitious three-exhibition cycle, was dealing with the potential of time travel. Described as Corridors each exhibition took visitors on an unfolding narrative through a significant moment related to scientific discoveries or notorious events in history.
In 2014 the insitu team initiated the PROJECT SPACE FESTIVAL BERLIN; a one-month-long festival of Berlin’s independent art scene, which continues annually in August. After four years running their art space in Berlin, they curated large-scale institutional exhibitions at Viborg Kunsthal, Denmark, as part of Aarhus – 2017 European Capital of Culture, and at Meetfactory, Prague in 2018.

Insitu curatorial collective and Project Space Festival
The film shows the house of Čestmír Suška and Naďa Rawová, where one of the first unofficial symposiums took place in July 1980 and which was soon followed by others (Netvořice 81, Mutějovice 83 and others). This led to a series of Confrontations (1984–1987) – exhibitions of the youngest generation of artists.
