The exhibition is a starting project of the 4AM Forum for Architecture and Media in the Gallery of Architecture in Brno and is prepared in a cooperation with a Forum of Experimental Architecture in Vienna.
There will be displayed events, personalities, culture and architecture of the second half of the 20th century by means of a slide projector. Projected slides (about 1000 altogether) will show contrasts and connections in life stories of selected personalities and visual realities of each era and country. There will be for example, beside one another, an Austrian architect and a co-worker of Adolf Loose, a communist Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky and Milada Horáková, who was executed by the communists – both women were imprisoned in the same German prison.
New connections will emerge when comparing the Italian and Japanese society, culture and architecture of that time or period “fetishs” Space and Concrete, which were in different forms common to countries separated by the Iron curtain too. The next series is among others made by portraits of people, who presented themselves by a specific daring deed or a long-lasting effort, an artistic production or a hazardous attitude during their lives. The exhibition is composed as a traveling project, which will come back after many repeats in different European cities (Vienna, Sibiu, Istanbul) enriched with national particularities and new connections.
The aim of the exhibition is to show the development of architecture in new global and whole European connections without still common and mostly completely mispresented division into the Western and Eastern world. There is a search for the answer, how art and architecture contributed and is contributing to the liberation of people. The liberation from art and architecture as well.
A part of the exhibition will be an accompanying exhibition in the area of Vlněna in Přízova street in Brno close to the main train station. This area arose in the 19th century and between the wars expanded into huge textile factories Stiassni and Neumark. After the nationalization, n.p. Vlněna arose and became famous in the sixties for the production of Artprotis. Non-woven hanging textiles designed by then contemporary artists (Inez Tuschnerová, Antonín Kybal) became parts of interiors of that time significant buildings. The exhibition in one of the factory halls will be an evidence of the times, when the factory worked including the political connections, which will be brought closer by a curator installation of materials found in Vlněna.
