Situation 49

Video of a flight over an endless Japanese Zen garden. The lines run colaterally with the horizon regularly interupted by circles.

A flat rock embedded in the wall of the gallery is in a vanishing point, on the horizon of the image of the Zen garden.

The sound of an object rolling over gravel.

The story that is read is an altered version of the traditional Japanese horror from the book Kaidan, Japanese ghost stories (Lafcadio Hearn).

There is a loudspeaker and microphone in the gallery. After the first reading of the story the microphone is directed towards the loudspeaker and the story is recorded again from the loudspeaker. This process is repeated, while each recording degrades the quality of the sound until it becomes an incomprehensible noise. While the sound is vanishing towards the evening, the projection in the gallery becomes much more radiant.
