Studio Basta: De-hardening; a catalyst for creating green & livable spaces

Studio Basta stands for liveable landscape and garden architecture. In all its projects the studio tries to create a fresh and uninhibited atmosphere, so that projects of all scale levels radiate a high usability value and informality. It perceives the landscape as a system in which every place has its meaning.

The genius loci of the place and the existing dynamics of a space are always the basics for an intervention. In this way, every design integrates very evidently into the context. Furthermore, Studio Basta focuses on a liveable grain, the design of daily life, a complex empty (play) experience… This creates spontaneous, livelable and green spaces with an ordered nonchalant character. With a strong academic background, including a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from Wageningen University in the Netherlands, the studio approaches each project analytically and systematically. Every assignment starts from a concept, so that one clear idea guides the entire design process. The elaboration of each project is always done with a technical and management logic in mind. We always strive for feasible, manageable and budget-conscious solutions.

In the lecture De-Hardening: A Catalyst for Creating Green and Livable Places, they illustrate, using a few examples from their own work, how de-hardening contributes to greening, increased biodiversity, smarter water management, and enhanced livability.

Studio Basta: De-hardening; a catalyst for creating green & livable spaces
Confrontations in public space are becoming more virulent. Protests gain traction, social tension is on the rise. Tension as a reaction to threat, an emotional roller coaster of strong convictions. The truth of convictions is shored up by shared emotional experience. Anger, loss of hope, feelings of remorse, anxiety; the emotional ties of mutuality.
Living Memorial is a counter-memorial initiated by the public and a grassroots social movement. It is a series of demonstrations since March 2014 based on participation and public discussions in the public space, organised by civilians against the Memorial for the Victims of the German Occupation of Hungary.
