AS BEE HIVE SEEN IT

Václav Kopecký, recent graduate of photography at Ústí nad Labem University combines his interest in traditional photographic techniques with 3D objects at his solo show in Galerie Jelení, Prague. Working with the motif of the bee hive, he has created two object-photographs.

With the help of another traditional tool, a pair of scissors, he manages to make his photographs spill over the surface of a specially made hive, eventually landing on the surrounding walls and floor. The pieces of each print are positioned as if projected from a single light source, itself a reference to Kopecký’s interest in the processes of the dark room.

With the bee hive reproduced in both matter and print the work can also be seen to link to his interest in photograms, 2D prints made directly from 3D objects.
