Klaudia Kosziba

Klaudia Kosziba is a painter and pedagogue at the Academy of Fine Arts and Applied Design in Bratislava. Since 2008, she has led the Studio of Painting, which she had taken over from prof. Ján Berger. Surface division of paintings, distinctive reduction of the colour scale, the meaning (or absence) of the figure suggest author’s sensitivity towards human relations and the immediate environment. That’s where she finds her subjects. They grow from mere descriptiveness and melancholy into the fatal irreversibility of the process they capture. Even the seemingly suppressed details have the unmistakable effect and, above all, it is them what plays the role of the representational leitmotiv. The painting thus acquires new layers of meaning that need to be uncovered gradually and ceaselessly. The paintings are vehicles of strong emotions, and the author succeeds in transferring them onto the viewer.

In her work, Cornaro uses found objects imbued with symbolic potential or emotional value, which she presents in different types of display and media to reveal the subtle shifts of meaning provoked by processes of reproduction and translation.
Borrowed from domestic, decorative or functional contexts, these artefacts are often linked to Western culture as a means of power, their combination and arrangement in the artist’s work invites spectators to question the relationships between systems of representation and our understanding of the world.
