Showrooms

The exhibition Showrooms of Peter Barényi (1978) presents himself as one of the main themes of his own art. Personally, thematically and technically minimized works are visualization of his thinking on the phenomena of everyday life. Another key theme of the current selection of videoinstallations, installations and objects is the authors relationship with his mother and her death. As the third part of the show he presents a collection of amateur photographer Dušan Veselovský, who, by Barényi’s wish made a series of commented collages from the life of the author. A mixture of facts and fiction disturbingly reminds us that more or less intensively built a picture of ourselves, is in the end characterized by particular images and ideas of the others.

While profit rules and quick information flow is raping minds it’s difficult to define its role. Represented works show two different, parallel lines. One of them is a line of contemporary art which critically relates to a society, directly pointing to the problems and raising questions. And the other one is orientated to the internal logic of creative act, telling stories by means of formal features of used media.
