51th October Salon

“I cannot walk through the suburbs in the solitude of the night without thinking that the night pleases us because it suppresses idle details, just as our memory does.” (Jorge Luis Borges, “A New Refutation of Time” (1944/1946) Labyrinths 1970, Penguin, p.258)

The individual choice, how to reformulate memory and the strategies about how to forget will be common denominators for the curatorial concept and the invited artworks to this year’s October Salon. In a sensitive, documentary and philosophical way it will focus on recent global history narrations parallel to the recent history in the Balkan region. We hope that the exhibition will contribute to an extended discussion, about the fact that incidents are seldom isolated but rather recurrent in history, the reconstruction of the past and the individual memory.
