Teasing a Snake with Bare Feet is the outcome of two weeks of immersion, experimentation and, above all, collaboration. SVĚTOVA 1, with the As We Grow programme together with Rosie Ridgway, opened a possibility for early-career artists that had never seen each other to have a space to discuss ideas, exchange knowledge and create freely. The outcome of the fourteen-day educational research project is a group show reflecting on themes of safe spaces, sharing of senses, and ideas of mental and spiritual stability.
"It was a common interest to use the space of the gallery as a starting point, and the four big windows seemed a great opportunity for that. We thought of them being a viewpoint into the gallery for people who can't access the space. We decided the windows would make divisions for each of us to create completely different spaces, that in the end would be just one thing. The music we made together also integrates the space, reflecting our individualities, pluralities and celebrating our diversity."
As We Grow is our educational research programme. Focusing on intergenerational dialogue and the related exchange of experiences is at the core of AWG. Each iteration is unique. Each is designed in a dialogue with the leading artist. AWG encourages learning through making attitudes and culminates in a group exhibition. In 2023, we strengthened our AWG and consequently focused on supporting early-career artists.
