On January 7, 2005, Oury Jalloh, an asylum seeker from Sierra Leone, died in a German police cell as a result of a fire. The police version of the case states that it was probably an accident caused by the detainee himself, or suicide, in connection with the ignition of a mattress made of non-flammable material to which Oury Jalloh was handcuffed and shackled.

The structure of the Tamagotchi video is based on the alternation of simple animations and texts. The animations remind us of early video games or simple computer games. For the texts he used the Chicago typeface which was designed for Apple Computer and was used between 1984 and 1997 in the operating system user interface. Unlike the main stream of Czech video making in the mid- 1990s, mostly based on performative elements or artistic unusualness, Mašín´s approach is radically different not only in terms of aesthetics but also conception.

The conversation will examine the methods used by ethnography during field research and the investigation of the survivors, witnesses and victims of violence involving wartime, community, domestic and sexual violence. The speakers will examine these methods in the light of the film by Renzo Martens Enjoy Poverty. Martens proposes that local photographers in the strife-torn Democratic Republic of Congo use human poverty as the main source of national wealth. In the film he offers advice on how to capture images of one’s own poverty.

Architect and investigative journalist Alison Killing presents the results and methodology of the research on mapping detention camps for the Uyghurs other Muslim minorities in China, for which her team was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 2021. The project uncovered details of the mass detention of these groups in so-called “re-education” camps, which the Chinese government officially denies or downplays.

Furthermore, it has exhibited its potential as a habitat builder, and proved its capabilities for land and real estate surveying, gathering data and visuals that are amenable for market-end purposes.
